LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell sophomore Kelly Bruvik (Skillman, N.J./Stuart Country Day) scored three goals, and classmate Morgan Kauffman (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor) added two goals and an assist, as the Bison soundly defeated Siena, 7-1, on Saturday, Sept. 27, at Graham Field. A Bucknell player had not scored at least three goals in a game, since Oct. 14, 1999, when Jen Zimmerman scored three times in a 6-0 win over Siena.
Bruvik, who now has scored six goals this year, scored off of a rebound one minute and 48 seconds into the game. Forty-six seconds later, at the 32:26 mark of the first half, the lightning detection alarm sounded, sending the game into a delay for approximately the next 30 minutes. No lightning was ever visibly seen.
Kauffman scored her first goal of the game, and third of the season, with 10:12 having gone by in the first half, following a penalty corner on which Amanda Faust (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) and Corinne Raczek (Ocean Township, N.J./Ocean Township) assisted. She then scored an unassisted goal 77 seconds later, before Siena got on the board just 66 seconds after that as Sarah Szewczyk got one past Bison goalkeeper Jessie Atieh (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex).
Megan Krebs (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./GAR Memorial) gave the Bison another three-goal cushion, scoring her third goal of the season, and the last of the first half, with 22:49 on the clock. Kauffman, the Patriot League leader in assists, got credited for her eighth helper of the season on the goal. She is now tied for fifth-place in program history for assists in a single-season.
Bruvik and Trina Boyer (Macungie, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) led the scoring attack for the Bison in the second half. Bruvik scored 112 seconds into the half, assisted by Boyer, before Boyer scored her third goal of the season at the 40:04 mark. Faust was credited with her second assist of the game on that goal. Bruvik fittingly scored the game's final goal, with 16:19 remaining to be played, off of a nice pass from Boyer as Bruvik was streaking toward the net.
The Bison attempted 24 shots and 16 penalty corners, while limiting the Saints to just three and one, respectively. Freshman goalkeeper Hanna Botney (St. Louis, Mo./Whitfield School) played the second half for Bucknell, but did not face a shot on goal.
Bucknell, now 6-3 on the season, travel to Philadelphia, Pa., on Tuesday, Sept. 30, for a game against the Saint Joseph's Hawks. Patriot League play starts on Saturday, Oct. 4, for Bucknell, as the Orange and Blue will travel to Easton, Pa., for a contest against the Lafayette Leopards.
