Bucknell Women's Tennis Finishes Successful Invitational

Bucknell's women's tennis team concluded the Bucknell Invitational on Sunday in strong fashion, winning nearly all of its matches. Lauren Lucido (Woodstock, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) won the Flight "A" Singles championship match against teammate Paulina Gamboa (Mexico City, Mexico/Greengates School), and the two combined to win the Flight "A" Doubles championship match.
The match between Lucido and Gamboa was a tight one, with Lucido coming from behind to win 2-6, 6-3, (10-3). Elsewhere in Flight "A" Singles, Bucknell's Dara Dwojewski (Chester, N.J./West Morris Mendham) defeated teammate Ashley Globerman (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown High School) in the fifth-place match, 6-3, 6-0. In Flight "A" Doubles, Gamboa and Lucido of the Bison defeated Villanova's Phillis and Reed, 8-3, and Williamson and Solberg, also of Villanova, 8-4, to win that title. Dumi Iepuras (Moldova/Germantown Friends School) and Courtney Casey (Rockville, Md./Georgetown Visitation) teamed for the Orange and Blue to play in the consolation match in Flight "A" Doubles, losing to the DeCarlos/Chernyshova pairing from Fairleigh Dickinson, 8-1.
Iepuras won the Flight "B" Singles championship match against Lyndsey Lostritto of Villanova, 6-3, 6-1, and Bucknell's Liz Larkin (Blue Bell, Pa./Germantown Academy) won the fifth place match against Judy Lite of Loyola (Md.), 6-0, 6-4.
Tiffany Card (Little Silver, N.J./Red Bank Regional) won the Flight "C" Singles fifth-place match against Lauren Clark of Mount St. Mary's, 6-1, 6-2, while Kirstyn Sotak (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Hathaway Brown) fell in the bracket's consolation match to Rachel Bergeron of Loyola, 6-2, 6-2. Bucknell's Megan Lee (Middleburg, Va./Wakefield) won the 13th-place match against Samantha Dupaya of the Mountaineers, 6-0, 7-5. Finally, in Flight "B" Doubles, Card and Sotak lost 8-1 to Bergeron and Black of Loyola.
The Bison women's tennis team returns to action on Friday, Sept. 26, traveling to West Point, N.Y., for the Eastern Championship. That tournament lasts through Sunday, Sept. 28.
