LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell junior linebacker Sam Nana-Sinkam (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township) typically wreaks havoc on the defensive side of the ball, but this past Saturday his play on special teams drew attention as he blocked a potential game-tying kick to preserve the Bucknell football team's 17-14 victory at Robert Morris. For his efforts, Nana-Sinkam was named the Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week Monday.
Nana-Sinkam, who totaled five tackles in the game and is second on the Bison with 14 this season, got a hand on Garrett Clawson's potential game-tying 22-yard field goal in the closing seconds of Saturday's contest at Robert Morris. It was his first career blocked kick and it guaranteed Bucknell would improve to 2-0 on the young season.
Nana-Sinkam, who was elected a game captain in the week leading up to the Robert Morris game, missed the entire 2007 campaign with a shoulder injury. He has made his presence felt on the field already this year as he returned from the injury to lead the Bison in tackles in a 48-42 season-opening win against Duquesne.
With his 14 tackles this season, Nana-Sinkam now has 99 in his career. A starter in all 13 games of his career, Nana-Sinkam is once again expected to start at linebacker this Saturday when Bucknell hosts Cornell in a 6 p.m. game at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.
