LORETTO, Pa. - Jennifer Dervarics (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) scored with 4:07 to play in regulation, helping the Bucknell women's soccer team to a 1-1 tie at Saint Francis (Pa.) on Sunday afternoon. Kathryn Sutton (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area) made five saves in goal, including two tough ones to keep the Bison within striking distance after the Red Flash took a 1-0 lead.
The draw capped an unbeaten opening weekend for Bucknell, which defeated UMBC 3-0 on the road on Friday.
Chelsea Brinkman (Clearwater, Fla./Palm Harbor University H.S.) set the tying goal in motion with a pass from the left side. Dervarics made one touch, then fired a shot to goalkeeper Jessica Boyer's right. Brinkman, who had a goal and an assist in the win at UMBC, now has four points in two games, while Dervarics' goal was her second in two games.
Exactly 60 minutes into the match, Rachael Seibert got behind the Bucknell defense on a breakaway and scored to put the Red Flash (0-0-1) in front. Bucknell had a breakaway of its own in the first overtime period but could not convert.
The Bison outshot Saint Francis 17-10 and led in corner kicks 5-3. Both teams logged two shots on goal in overtime, but Sutton and Boyer were up to the task each time.
Bucknell will have another tough weekend coming up, with road games at Maryland on Friday night at Rutgers next Sunday afternoon.
