LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Bucknell was one of 50 Division I women's lacrosse programs to earn Academic Squad recognition from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association this week. Individually, rising seniors Bonnie Buechel and Sarah Collins were named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll.
Teams that have a collective GPA of 3.0 or greater earn the distinction of Academic Squad. A total of 159 student-athletes were named to the Honor Roll. To qualify, individuals must have achieved at least junior year status and have a minimum GPA of 3.2.
Buechel and Collins also shined on the field for the Bison in 2008. Buechel earned Second Team All-Patriot League honors this spring, her third straight postseason nod. Adept at both ends of the field, Buechel tied for second on the team (with Collins and Paige Kasschau) with 34 points (25 goals, 9 assists), she led the team in draw controls with 48, and she ranked second with 26 ground balls and third with 15 caused turnovers.
Collins finished the 2008 campaign with 20 goals and 14 assists. She has scored at least 18 goals in each of her first three seasons at Bucknell, and she enters 2009 with 113 career points, just four behind Buechel for the most among active Bison players.
