LEWISBURG, Pa. - Maren Ford, a 2006 graduate of Princeton University and a volunteer assistant coach with the Tigers for the past two seasons, has been named assistant field hockey coach at Bucknell by new head coach Jeremy Cook. Ford is the third member of the coaching staff, joining Cook and third-year graduate assistant coach Melissa Bostwick.
“Maren brings a very prestigious background to Bucknell,” Cook said. “Princeton has set the standard for excellence in field hockey on the field and in the classroom, and her experience will be very valuable in all aspects of our program.”
As a volunteer assistant with Princeton the past two seasons, Ford helped to guide the Tigers to back-to-back Ivy League titles and an NCAA Tournament victory. During Ford's playing days with Princeton, she was a three-time All-Ivy League selection, earning second-team recognition in her sophomore and junior seasons, and reaching first-team status in 2005 as a senior. Ford was an instrumental part of three Ivy League championship teams as a student-athlete, and as a player and a coach, has been involved with five of Princeton's 16 conference championship teams.
“I like to work with student-athletes who are passionate in more than one area and strive to be better in one area,” Ford said. “At Bucknell, these young women bring a new level to student-athlete.”
Ford has been named to the 2008 U.S. National Indoor Team and was one of nine members on the 2007-2008 USA Developmental Squad that worked with the United States Olympic Team currently competing in Beijing. Ford will compete for the 2008 Indoor Pan American Cup to be held in San Juan, Argentina, in November. This past spring, Ford played for St. Catherine's Club in Primer Division 1A in Argentina and coached St. Catherine's Club Septima Division A Girls team.
“A huge part of development is getting different tastes of culture and approaches to the game, and Maren's time in Argentina adds to her value as part of our staff,” Cook said.
The Bucknell field hockey team opens play this season on Saturday, Aug. 30, hosting Villanova at 4 p.m. on Graham Field.
