LEWISBURG, Pa. - Former Bison men's lacrosse player Paul Stansik, a 2007 Bucknell graduate, netted his first career Major League Lacrosse (MLL) goal this past weekend when his team, the Chicago Machine, narrowly lost to the first-place Denver Outlaws, 15-13.
Stansik, who made the Chicago roster in the preseason, is a long-stick defenseman who recorded just one point (assist) during his four-year Bison career. A veteran of 46 games during his Bucknell tenure, Stansik's goal against Denver put Chicago up 13-12 early in the fourth quarter. However, the Outlaws registered the final three points in the game, including a two-point goal with 13 seconds remaining, to pull out the victory.
Stansik, whose brother, Patrick, will be a junior on the Bison men's lacrosse squad in 2009, made the Chicago squad in the preseason after attending an open tryout that featured 40 players. From that list of 40 players, five were invited to training camp. Stansik was the only one of those five that appeared on the final 23-man opening day roster.
A 2007 Bucknell co-captain, Stansik was one of the top long-stick defensive midfielders on a Bison squad that finished his senior campaign 11-4. He recorded 22 ground balls as a senior and was part of a Bucknell defense that allowed only 6.33 goals per game, which ranked fourth-best in the nation.
Stansik is one of two former Bison on MLL rosters this summer. Matt Baran '06 is on the New Jersey Pride roster, but has yet to appear in a game. He did make 25 saves in three appearances in 2007 after piling up 465 stops in his four-year Bucknell career to stand sixth in program history.
