BARBADOS REPORT #2 - from the perspective of the Junior Class
Hi Everyone. On Thursday night we played the Barbados Junior Nationals and after a close game we unfortunately lost 2-1. However, we still had a nice, relaxing night at dinner at The Ship Inn restaurant. We called it an early night following dinner as we were all exhausted from the amazing safari and our game - plus we had to wake up for an early morning practice on Friday. Practice the following day was light as we went over a few things we needed to fix in order for us to be successful in our next game with the Junior Nationals. We spent the rest of Friday splashing in the ocean and relaxing on the beach. Some of us went jet skiing and had an absolute blast; we were thrilled with seeing a giant sea turtle during our jet ski adventure. After a long day in the sun, we went out to dinner at Bert's which is owned by the owner of the Ottawa Senators hockey club. (Fortunately for Heather and Morgan, they would be able to return to Bert's the following evening to watch game one of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Unfortunately for Heather, she had to watch her beloved Penguins fall to Morgan's favorite Detroit Red Wings.) Following dinner on Friday night at Bert's, the team socialized at a local establishment called Jumbie's. While the evening might have started off "slow", it certainly pick up as there is no doubt we had a great time on the dance floor. We think the native Bajans were very impressed with our dance moves!
On Saturday we spent the early morning travelling around Bridgetown, the capital of Barbados. Included was the opportunity to take advantage of the "duty free" shopping on Broad Street. Many of us were able to pick up souveniers for our family and friends. After a few hours in Bridgetown, we came back and spent the afternoon relaxing by the pool and beach. That evening we went to a restaurant called "Just Grillin" for some fabulous chicken and seafood! We called it an early night so we would be ready for our game against the Junior Nationals on Sunday. Check back soon for a final report from the sophomore class.
