Bucknell's Kelly Hoffman and Jennie Trayes Named to Academic All-District II At-Large Team

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell had two student-athletes named Academic All-District II At-Large Team on Thursday as senior Kelly Hoffman (Boyertown, Pa./Oley Valley) of the field hockey team was a first-team selection and women's rowing senior Jennie Trayes (Hawley, Pa./Wallenpaupack) was a second-team choice. Nine Bison have been named Academic All-District II this year. As a member of the first team, Hoffman now moves to the national ballot and is eligible for Academic All-America honors.
Hoffman, who was a Second Team Academic All-District selection last spring, recently graduated with a double major in English and psychology and a cumulative grade-point average of 3.93. She was named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-Academic squad and the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in 2005, 2006 and 2007. Hoffman was also an active member of Bucknell's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, participating in activities such as traveling to a local elementary school earlier this year to teach children about sports.

Last month, Hoffman earned the Alvin F. Jackson Memorial Scholar-Athlete Award at Bucknell's annual Senior Recognition Dinner. The award is presented to senior athletes "for outstanding academic and athletic achievement, and future promise as Bucknell alumni."
Hoffman completed her outstanding four-year career with 14 goals and eight assists. She played in 64 games and drew 56 starts.
Trayes recently wrapped up her academic career with a 3.75 grade-point average while majoring in economics and Spanish while also earning a minor in environmental studies. A seven-time Dean's List member and a three-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, Trayes was named a National Scholar-Athlete by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) in 2006 and 2007. She was also a three-year member of the Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Scholastic Society.
In 2008, Trayes has been a key member of the varsity eight that earned its third consecutive Patriot League Boat of the Year honor as it led the Bison to their third straight Patriot League team title. Additionally, the varsity eight has posted wins at the Murphy Cup, Knecht Cup and the ECAC Metro Championships this spring. Last week, at the Eastern Sprints, Trayes, who has rowed in the 8-seat this year, helped the varsity eight to a tight second-place finish to Dartmouth in the petite final as Bucknell placed eighth of 18 teams in its first trip to the competitive event. Overall this year, the varsity eight had won nine of its 10 races entering Eastern Sprints.
Following last month's Patriot League Championships, Trayes was named to the All-Patriot League Team for the second time in her career, having also earned the honor in 2006. She was also recently cited as the team's Most Valuable Rower and is the first Bison women's rower to earn an Academic All-District citation since Jill Harrington in 2004.
Holding down the 7-seat in the varsity eight earlier in her career, Trayes has been part of the most successful era in Bucknell women's rowing history as the team has won three straight Patriot League titles and two consecutive Murphy Cup and ECAC Metro Championship trophies over the last three years.
Trayes' career is not quite complete as she will compete in the Henley Women's Regatta with other members of the varsity eight and second varsity eight next month on the Thames River in Henley, England.
To be eligible for a nomination for academic all-district honors, a student-athlete must carry a minimum 3.20 grade-point average and be a starter or key reserve on his or her team.
