LEWISBURG, Pa. - On Monday, Kristin Frick (West Chester, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) became Bucknell's third Patriot League Softball Player of the Week this season and Christie Wiest was named Patriot League Pitcher of the Week, becoming the first Bison to earn that award since Julie Williams 2004.
Frick joins Alison Ford and Mary Pavlovich as Bison to be honored this season after going 8-for-12 with five runs batted in and four runs scored during a four-game sweep of Holy Cross over the weekend. The highlight of Frick's weekend was the second game on Saturday when she went 3-for-3 and hit two home runs. She is the fifth player in Bison history to accomplish that feat, with the last one being Lauren Wible in 2005.
A junior, Frick saw her average go from .278 to a team-best .348 after her outstanding weekend at the plate. She had hits in six consecutive at-bats at one point and recorded four extra-base hits. She now owns a career-best seven-game hitting streak.
Additionally, Frick handled nine chances flawlessly at second base and stole three bases over the weekend.
Wiest had an outstanding weekend as well, pitching a pair of shutouts and yielded just five hits in 13.0 innings. She opened the weekend with a three-hit shutout while striking out seven in a 6-0 win over the Crusaders. On Sunday, Wiest faced the minimum number of hitters into the sixth inning and allowed just two singles on the day.
A senior co-captain, Wiest has now won four consecutive starts and is 12-12 on the year. Bucknell's all-time leader in strikeouts, she now ranks 10th in Patriot League history with 354 and ended the regular season with 14.2 scoreless innings.
Overall last week, Wiest posted a 0.00 ERA and opponents hit just .122 against her. She had a stellar 11-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
Wiest now has a team-best 2.32 ERA and has 96 strikeouts in 29 appearances this season.
Bucknell (22-27, 13-7 PL) swept a four-game series from Holy Cross over the weekend to extend its winning streak to six and clinch a berth in next week's Patriot League Tournament. The third-seeded Bison will square off with second-seeded Lafayette in the first round of the three-day tournament on May 8.
