LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell baseball senior right-hander Mathew Wilson (Toronto, Ontario/Northern S.S.) was selected as both the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week and the Patriot League Pitcher of the Week this past Monday and has added another honor to the list as he was named the ECAC Division I Pitcher of the Week on Thursday evening.
Wilson is the second member of the Bison to be recognized with an ECAC award this season as sophomore John Avanzino (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) was named Division I Player of the Week back on Mar. 31.
Last weekend, Wilson contributed to Bucknell's 3-1 series win over the Holy Cross with a masterful pitching performance in Sunday's seven-inning contest that helped the Bison climb into a tie for first in the league standings. He threw all seven innings of the 3-0 victory for the Orange and Blue, picking up his fourth career shutout to tie Kurt Waldner for the program record in that category. Wilson held the Crusaders to just four hits, all singles, two of which came in the first inning. He also set a career high with 11 strikeouts, the most by a Bucknell pitcher since Eric Junge fanned 11 in 1999.
In four appearances on the season, Wilson is 2-1 with a 4.26 ERA and has 35 strikeouts in 25.1 innings, for an average of 12.43 per game and has walked just five batters.
The Bison, who are 18-16-2 on the season, 8-1 at home thus far, will play host to Navy in a crucial Patriot League series this Saturday and Sunday, Apr. 19-20, with the first each doubleheader set to begin at noon on Depew Field.
