Bucknell Men's Track and Field Sends Athletes To Finals At IC4A Championships

BOSTON, Mass. - As the first day of the 2008 IC4A Championships wrapped up on Saturday, the Bucknell men's track and field team qualified two athletes to the final of the 400-meter dash and is set to send its 4x800 relay to the final on Sunday at Boston University.
Junior Kerry Boyle (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton) led the way for the Bison on day one of the championship, placing fourth in the prelim for the 400-meter dash with a final qualifying time of 47.66. Joining Boyle in the final will be junior Kevin Macleod (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow), who placed 10th in the prelim with a personal record and the second-best time in Bucknell history (48.05). Also representing the Orange and Blue in the 400-meter dash prelim was freshman Guy Castranova (Trenton, N.J./Notre Dame). He placed 29th with a time of 49.27.
Bucknell's 4x800 relay team of senior Brian Mooney (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili), freshman John Picardo (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton Central), freshman Clayton Smith (Sparta N.J./Pope John XXIII) and sophomore Kyle Ramer (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) placed fifth with a time of 7:40.45, to advance to the final on Sunday.
After the first four events in the heptathlon, sophomore Ryan White (Elkins Park, Pa./Father Judge) stands in 11th with 2,693 points. He posted season bests in the 55-meter dash (6.81) and the long jump (21-5 ½) to place seventh and 10th, respectively. Additionally, White went 5-11 ½ in the high jump (12th) and 36-10 ½ in the shot put (seventh).
Sophomore Kyle Anthony (Barryville, N.Y./Eldred Central) placed 11th in the long jump, posting a distance of 22-1/4. Also competing for Bucknell on the first day of IC4A's was senior Wallace Campbell (Montgomery, Ala./Montgomery Acad.) in the 3,000-meter run. He finished 21st with a time of 8:24.71, while senior James Meyer (Pac. Palisades, Calif./Pacific Palisades) placed 22nd in the weight throw with a distance of 51-5 ¾. Bucknell's distance medley relay team of sophomore Baron Willeford (New Orleans, La./Columbia Prep (N.Y.)), sophomore Gregory Baxter (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley), freshman Evan Novakowski (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) and sophomore Conor McNamara (Baldwin, N.Y./Chaminade) placed 22nd with a time of 10:22.17.
The Bison will continue at the IC4A Championships on Sunday with finals for the 400-meter dash and in the 4x800 relay in addition to the final three events of the heptathlon, freshmen Nicholas Hruch (Sykesville, Md./Liberty) and Drew Fitzgerald (Ballston Spa, Pa./Ballston Spa) in the high jump, sophomore Timothy Medlock (Evan Mills, N.Y./Indian River) in the shot put and Anthony in the triple jump.
