LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell softball freshman Lauren Fry (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Monday. The outfielder hit a team-best .471 last week during the team's Spring Break trip to California.
Fry capped off the seven-game week with three consecutive multiple-hit games. Included in that streak was a 5-for-7 performance in a doubleheader Sunday against the University of San Diego. The left-handed hitter had a streak of five consecutive at bats with a hit during the twinbill.
One of just four Bison to play in all seven games last week, Fry was 8-for-17 with three runs scored and one run batted in. She also tied for the team lead with four walks, giving her an on-base percentage of .571 to pace the team.
Thanks to her solid week, Fry now leads the squad in hitting with a .281 average this season and has scored a team-high six runs. Additionally, Fry has hit a pair of doubles and driven in five runs.
Fry is Bucknell's first Patriot League weekly award winner since last Feb. 27 when then-senior Lauren Litts copped Player of the Week honors and current sophomore Mary Pavlovich was named the league's Rookie of the Week.
The Bison went 0-7 on their Spring Break trip to California and are now 3-15 this year. After playing their first 18 games on the road, they are slated to open a six-game homestand this Wednesday, March 19, with a pair of games against Bloomsburg. Bucknell lost a 2-0 decision to the Huskies last spring.
