Bucknell Women's Swimming & Diving Takes Third at Patriot League Championships

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Bucknell women's swimming and diving squad finished third at the 2008 Patriot League Championships, which wrapped up this Saturday evening in Navy's Lejeune Hall. The Bison totaled 644.5 points in the three-day meet, while Colgate won the team title with 723.5 points and Navy finished second with 679.
Senior Kristen Skroski (North Haven, Conn./Hopkins) placed third in the 1,650 free, with the No. 2 time in program history, 17 minutes 11.27 seconds. Also scoring for the Bison in the event were senior Katalin Lyons (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) who placed ninth (17:38.09) and freshman Katie John (Barrington, R.I./Barrington) who came in 10th (17:41.23).
In one-meter diving, sophomore Eliza Massie (Rochester, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) led the way for the Orange and Blue, taking third with 247.80 points, while sophomore Rebecca Bersani (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) followed in fourth with a score of 245.65 and sophomore Allison FitzPatrick (Berwyn, Pa./Episcopal) was sixth (221.95).
The Bison re-wrote the program's top-10 list for the 200 back. Sophomore Abigail Atkinson (Newton, Conn./Newtown) recorded the No. 6 all-time performance, clocking in at 2:05.10, and went on to finish third in the finals with a time of 2:05.50. Sophomore Lauren Russell (Lower Burrell, Pa./Burrell) moved up to seventh on the list with her preliminaries time (2:06.29) and improved upon that mark in the finals, finishing fourth in 2:06.15. Freshman Sinead O'Dwyer (Green River, Wyo./The Peddie School (N.J.)) and sophomore Courtney Warren (Montour Falls, N.Y./Watkins Glen) posted the ninth- (2:07.43) and tenth-fastest (2:07.72) times in school history to qualify for the finals. In the finals, O'Dwyer came in seventh and Warren finished eighth with times of 2:08.81 and 2:09.80, respectively. Sophomore Abigail Paules (York, Pa./Baltimore Lutheran) provided additional points for Bucknell, placing 15th with a time of 2:10.87.
Sophomore Megan Mongan (Malvern, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) was the top finisher for the Bison in the 100 free, taking fourth in 52.25, which improved upon her personal best that already stood fourth in school history. Freshman Molly Goebel (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) already held the No. 5 time on the Bison top-10, but bettered her fifth-place mark with her preliminaries time of 52.81. In the finals, she placed eighth in 53.84, while junior Alexandra Lovallo (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) scored as well (15th, 54.01).
In the 200 breast, freshman Macey Keath (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) qualified for the "A" final with a time of 2:23.62, good for fourth on the program's all-time list, and later set a new personal best in the finals, taking sixth in 2:23.32. Junior Nikki Seaman (Cleveland, Ohio/The Hawken School) finished eighth (2:25.57) and classmate Kelly Morris (Metuchen, N.J./Metuchen) won the "B" final with a time of 2:25.03.
Freshman Laura Twichell (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) was the lone Bison to reach the finals in the 200 fly where she placed 10th in 2:10.99.
To close out the meet, the 400 free relay team of Goebel, Mongan, Lovallo and Skroski took third with a time of 3:32.73, which ranks sixth in the Bucknell record book.
