FARMVILLE, Va. - One day after losing to Eastern Michigan in a high-scoring 12-7 affair, the Bucknell softball team dropped a 1-0 decision to the Eagles Saturday afternoon on day two of the Longwood Lancer Leadoff Classic. Christie Wiest (Centre Hall, Pa./Penns Valley) pitched a complete-game eight-hitter for the Bison, who fell to 0-3 on the season.
Erin Curatola (River Edge, N.J./River Dell) went 2-for-3 for Bucknell, while Mary Pavlovich (Johnstown, Pa./Richland) and Jessie Snyder (Tacoma, Wash./Stadium) each contributed one hit as the Bison touched Eastern Michigan starter Kari Chambers for four hits.
Bucknell's best chance to score came in the fifth when Ashley Beans (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) walked to lead off the frame. Snyder followed with her single to right field before Sam Rollandi (San Carlos, Calif./Notre Dame Belmont) moved them to second and third with a sacrifice bunt. However, the Bison could not push a run across.
Wiest pitched her second complete game of the young season and scattered eight hits over her six innings of work. She struck out four, walked two and allowed just a single run in the fourth inning when Jessica Grant knocked home Stacie Skodinski with a single.
Chambers helped the Eagles improve to 3-0 as she picked up her second victory of the year. She struck out three and walked two in the shutout.
Bucknell will wrap up play at the Longwood Leadoff Classic Sunday when it faces Pittsburgh at 12 p.m. and Morehead State at 2 p.m.
