LEWISBURG, Pa. - Patrick Behan (Leesburg, Va./Notre Dame Academy), a junior forward on the Bucknell men's basketball team, earned Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week honors on Monday. Behan averaged 21.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in two games last week, highlighted by a career-high 27-point performance against Wagner on Saturday.
In that 83-79 loss to Wagner, Behan made 11 of 19 shots from the floor, 1 of 1 from the 3-point arc and 4 of 4 from the free-throw line. He also grabbed six rebounds. Last Tuesday in a thrilling 83-82 double-overtime win over Old Dominion, Behan had 16 points and eight rebounds.
His previous career scoring high was 18 points, set last season against La Salle, which is Bucknell's next opponent (Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Philadelphia).
Behan, who had 12 points and nine rebounds in the season opener against Maryland, is now averaging 13.2 points per game this season. That is the second-highest average on the team and the ninth-best in the Patriot League. He is shooting 45.2 percent from the floor, the best mark on the team among players with at least 30 shot attempts, and his 28 rebounds is one shy of the team lead.
The men's basketball team had plenty of awards candidates this week, as Justin Castleberry had a career-high 31 points, including the game-winning shot with 15.6 seconds left in double overtime, in the win over Old Dominion; G.W. Boon had a career-high 24 points against Wagner; and Darryl Shazier scored a career-high 14 points in both games and almost had a triple-double against Old Dominion with nine assists and nine rebounds.
