LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior Jennifer Dervarics (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) captured the Patriot League Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Year award for the second year in a row, the league office announced Thursday night at the Patriot League Tournament banquet at the U.S. Naval Academy. Dervarics, the league's leading scorer, is the fourth repeat winner of the award.
The high-scoring forward joins Bucknell Hall of Famer Lisa Gibbons as the lone Bison players to receive the league's top offensive honor. Gibbons, Bucknell's all-time leading scorer, won the award in 1993.
Dervarics leads the Patriot League in both goals (12) and points (30) this season, and she leads her team into this weekend's Patriot League Tournament at Navy as the No. 2 seed. The Bison will play third-seeded Army on Friday at 7 p.m.
Dervarics, who was also the 2008 Patriot League Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, has exactly equaled her scoring output from last season. Her 12 goals and 30 points both rank fifth on Bucknell's all-time single-season charts.
She has at least one goal or assist in 11 of the team's 19 games this fall and has four game-winning goals. She scored both the tying and go-ahead goal in the second half of Bucknell's big win over Maryland, and in Patriot League play Dervarics logged five-point games against both Holy Cross and Lafayette.
Dervarics now ranks No. 3 all-time on Bucknell's career charts for goals (36), assists (19) and points (91), and she is one of only seven players in school history to earn all-conference honors three times.
The previous Patriot Leaguers to earn offensive MVP honors multiple times were Army's Holly Pedley (1994, 1997), Navy's Stacy Finley (2001, 2002) and Lehigh's Gina Lewandowski (2004, 2005).
Other major awards handed out Thursday night included defensive player of the year to Navy's Shelly Moeller, rookie of the year to Katherine Donnelly of Holy Cross, goalkeeper of the year to Navy's Lizzie Barnes and coach of the year to Army's Gene Ventriglia.
