Bucknell Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Begins Day One of Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's and women's swimming & diving teams welcomed Binghamton, James Madison (women), La Salle, The College of New Jersey and Towson to Kinney Natatorium, on Saturday, Nov. 22, for the first day of the two-day Bucknell Invitational. At the conclusion of the opening day, the Bison men were in first place of five teams with a score of 488, while the Bison women placed fourth out of six teams, scoring 309 points on Saturday.
The Bison men received a first place finish from junior Luke Trafton (Bath, Maine/Morse), who touched the wall in the 1,650-yard freestyle in 15 minutes, 49.85 seconds. Trafton finished fifth in the 200 fly (1:56.47), but his preliminary swim of 1:53.40 in the event is the seventh best time in program history. Bucknell senior co-captain Mark Kawczenski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Hanover Area) won the 100 back in 51.32.
On the women's side, Bucknell freshman Kristen Bucaria (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) finished 10th in the 200 fly (2:09.19), posting the eighth best time in school history. Bucaria's classmate, Jamie Chakany (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny), finished fifth in the 1,650 free (17:30.37), recording the 10th best time in the Bucknell record books.
Abigail Atkinson (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) improved upon her own personal best in the 100 back, finishing the race in sixth place with a time of 58.99, one tenth of a second faster than her previous best, which ranks eighth in Bison history. Courtney Warren (Montour Falls, N.Y./Watkins Glen) finished second overall in the event (57.34). She currently has the second best time in the event in school history (57.07).
Finally, a trio of Bison women had strong performances in the 100 breast, as Macey Keath (1:05.94) (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest), Kelly Morris (1:06.64) (Metuchen, N.J./Metuchen) and Nikki Seaman (1:06.92) (Cleveland, Ohio/The Hawken School) placed second, fourth and fifth, respectively in the event. Morris currently has the second best time in Bucknell history in the event (1:05.07), and now Keath and Seaman are right behind her with the next two best finishes.
The final day of the Bucknell Invitational is Sunday, Nov. 23, and starts at 9 a.m. at Kinney Natatorium.
