LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Bucknell junior midfielder Conor O'Brien (Mt. Sinai, N.Y./St. Anthony's) was named Patriot League Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Year on Thursday night at the league's postseason banquet. O'Brien is the second Bison to capture that honor, joining Scott Visnic in 2003.
Earlier in the week O'Brien earned First Team All-Patriot League honors, one year after he captured second-team honors. The Bison co-captain was named to the Hermann Trophy Watch List prior to the start of this season, then he went on to lead the Patriot League in points (22) and assists (8) and rank second in goals (7).
O'Brien registered at least one point in 13 of Bucknell's 19 games this season. He had a six-game scoring streak early in the season, which was tied for the fourth-longest in program history. He also finished the season on a five-game scoring streak, including a big two-goal game in a must-win over Lehigh in the second-to-last game of the regular season. O'Brien started all 19 games this season and all 61 in his career so far.
Other major award winners announced were Defensive Player of the Year Jerry Dickinson of Holy Cross, Goalkeeper of the Year David Cappucio of Colgate, Rookie of the Year Matt Makowski of American and Coach of the Year Todd West of American.
Bucknell has now had 12 major award winners since the Patriot League's inception in 1990.
