Bucknell Swimming & Diving Hosts Duquesne on Saturday

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's and women's swimming & diving teams will host the Duquesne Dukes at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1, at Kinney Natatorium. This is the second dual meet of the season for the Bison, following last week's matchup with Boston College. The Bison men defeated the Eagles, 182-107, while the women's team won, 174-126.
The Bison opened the season with a non-scoring meet against UMBC in Baltimore, Md., on Saturday, Oct. 4, before facing off against the Eagles at home on Oct. 25. At UMBC, Bucknell junior Courtney Warren (Montour Falls, N.Y./Watkins Glen) won both the 50- and 100-yard backstroke events, and sophomore Molly Goebel New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) won the 50 free. On the men's side, junior Luke Trafton (Bath, Maine/Morse) won the 100 IM, while freshman Jonathan Podniesinski (Melville, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) won the 200 IM. Bison sophomore Gonzalo DeLeon (Ringwood, N.J./Lakewood Regional) won the 200 back, rounding out the individual swimming winners for the Orange and Blue. Eliza Massie (Rochester, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) and Jeffrey Manning (Bringhurst, Ind./Carroll Jr./Sr. High) each won both the one-meter and three-meter diving events for the Bison against the Terriers.
Against the Eagles, Podniesinski had the best times in the 200 breast, 400 IM and 1,000 free, and his times in the 400 IM (four minutes, 10.43 seconds) and the 1,000 free (9:44.68) were both top-10 times in Bucknell history. Bison senior co-captain Mark Kawczenski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Hanover Area) won the 100 back and the 100 free, while freshman Eric Sokolosky (Branford, Conn./Branford) and Nathanie Frye (Franklin, Pa./Franklin Area) won the 50 free and 100 breast, respectively. DeLeon won the 200 back for the second consecutive time this season, while junior Daniel Fletcher (Cedar Grove, N.J./Cedar Grove) captured first in the 200 free. Manning swept both the one-meter and three-meter dives.
The Bison women's swimming team had its own triple even winner, as sophomore Macey Keath (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) won the 100 breast, 200 breast and 400 IM. Warren won the 100 back, while Abigail Atkinson (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) won the 200 back. Goebel again won the 50 free, while freshman Kaitlyn Sweeney (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) had the best time in the 100 fly. Allison FitzPatrick (Berwyn, Pa./Episcopal Academy) won the three-meter dive. Both the Bison women's and men's swimming teams had winning teams in the 200 medley and the 400 free relays.
This is the final meet for the Orange and Blue before it will get a chance to swim against Patriot League competition. American, Lafayette and Navy will all be at Kinney Natatorium, on Saturday, Nov. 8, for a meet that starts at 2 p.m.
