LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior field hockey player Trina Boyer (Macungie, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) was named Damon's Bison Athlete and Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week, on Monday, Oct. 27, for her play against Patriot League rival Colgate on Saturday. In addition, classmate Amanda Faust (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week. Boyer scored two goals in the last four minutes, 35 seconds of the game, including the game-winner, assisted by Faust, with only 77 seconds left in regulation time. Faust also had a goal and an assist in the first half of the game.
Boyer's first goal against the Raiders broke a 2-2 tie. The Bison lead was not to last long, as Colgate tied the game at three, just 69 seconds later. Faust had a free hit from outside of Colgate's circle, and Boyer was able to get her stick on it. The ball ricocheted high into the air off of Raiders' goalkeeper Sarah Pederson, and found its place in the back of the goal cage.
Faust assisted on the Bison's first goal of the game, scored by Megan Krebs (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./GAR Memorial), following a penalty corner. She then scored her team-leading ninth goal of the season on another Bucknell penalty corner to give the Bison a 2-0 lead at halftime. Faust also helped to anchor the Bison defense, which faced 13 shots and nine penalty corner attempts by Colgate.
Over the last two games, Boyer has scored five goals. She recorded a hat trick against Georgetown in the team's 3-1 win over the Hoyas on Sunday, Oct. 19, in addition to her two against Colgate. Boyer is second on the team and among the conference's league leaders in goals with eight, and she has 19 points, third on the Bison squad this season.
For her career, Boyer now has scored 20 goals, ranking just outside the list of top-10 goal scorers in Bucknell history. She has played in 63 career games, starting 46, and has 46 career points. A double major in economics and political science, Boyer has twice been selected to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and the NFHCA All-Academic Squad.
Faust, who last week was named a 2008 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I All-Star, leads Bucknell with 28 points, tallying 10 assists in addition to her nine goals. This is the second career defensive player of the week award for Faust, and fifth overall Patriot League weekly award. Starting all 68 games of her career, Faust ranks third in Bucknell history in points (88) and sixth in goals (27), while holding the Bucknell record for assists with 34. That total ranks fourth in Patriot League history. Faust is a three-time All-Patriot League selection and a two-time First Team Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-Mideast honoree.
The Bison (10-6, 2-2 PL) return to action on Saturday, Nov. 1, traveling to Worcester, Mass., to play Holy Cross, in their final regular season game. With a win, Bucknell (10-6, 2-2 PL) guarantees itself a spot in the Patriot League Tournament.
