LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell junior Chelsea McGorry (Charlton, Mass./Shepherd Hill Regional) earned Patriot League Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honors on Monday after her three-point performance helped lift the Bison to a big Patriot League victory over Colgate on Saturday night.
McGorry registered a goal and an assist in Bucknell's 3-1 win over the Raiders. The second-half goal, her second of the season, put the Bison ahead 2-0 and proved to be the game-winning tally. Colgate eventually cut the margin to 2-1, but only 18 seconds later, McGorry served a perfect pass to teammate Jennifer Dervarics, who scored with a header to restore Bucknell's two-goal cushion.
It was McGorry's second career multi-point game. The other was a two-assist showing against American in 2006. Her other goal this season came in Bucknell's 3-2 upset of Maryland on Aug. 29.
The victory over Colgate was a critical one for the Bison, who are now 8-5-2 overall and 2-2-0 in the Patriot League. It moved them back into a tie for fourth place with the Raiders in the Patriot League standings and gave them the head-to-head tiebreaker over Colgate. The top four teams qualify for the Patriot League Tournament next month.
The Bison have two more big conference games coming up this weekend, Friday night at Lehigh and Sunday afternoon at Lafayette.
