Bucknell Men's Water Polo Defeats George Washington, 9-4

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's water polo team earned its third consecutive victory, defeating conference rival George Washington 9-4 on the afternoon of Saturday, Oct. 18, at Kinney Natatorium in Lewisburg. The Bison are now 2-0 on their five-game homestand, the only time the team will play at home this season.

Richie Hyden (Melbourne, Australia/Greenwich (Conn.)) staked the Bison (11-10, 3-2 CWPA) to an early lead scoring the game's first goal with 5 minutes, 58 seconds left on the first quarter clock. Bucknell goalkeeper Nick Donahue (Brooklyn, N.Y./Lawrenceville) made four saves in the period, and Howie Kalter (Durham, N.H./Phillips Academy Andover) scored with four seconds left on the clock to give his team a 2-0 lead.

Bucknell tallied the first goal of the second quarter, as Alex Lovell (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./Chadwick) scored the team's second six-on-five goal of the game. Bison sophomore Sean Coghlan (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) pushed the lead to 4-0, scoring a fast break goal with 2:49 to go until the half. George Washington's Nick Eddy scored his team's first goal just 49 seconds later, and each team would score once more before the intermission, with Randy Ang (Hillsborough, Calif./Sacred Heart Prep) scoring for the Orange and Blue.

The Bison extended their lead in the third quarter with two goals from Hyden and one from senior co-captain Alex Lampley (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin) giving Bucknell an 8-2 lead. Kalter would score the final Bucknell goal of the game in the fourth, and two more goals by the Colonials would end the scoring on the day. Hyden finished his afternoon with three goals and two assists, while Katler added two goals and an assist and Coghlan finished with a goal and two assists. Donahue had nine saves for the Bison.

Bucknell's next game is Saturday evening against the Mercyhurst Lakers. The contest is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
