LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell sophomore Corinne Raczek (Ocean Township, N.J./Ocean Township) was named Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week and field hockey's Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week, on Monday, Oct. 13. Raczek scored the game-tying goal and assisted on the game-winner in the Bison's 2-1 win over Lehigh on Saturday. With her assist, Raczek now has 10 so far this season, tying Bucknell's single-season record for assists set three previous times.
The other three players in Bison history with 10 assists in a single-season also rank as the top-three for career assists at Bucknell. Amanda Faust (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) recorded 10 assists in 2006, and with seven this season, holds the Bison all-time record with 31. Jen Zimmerman accomplished the feat in 1997, and had 26 career assists, while Alex Kyzmir had 10 assists in 2005, and finished her career with 23. Raczek had one assist as a freshman in 2007, and her 11 career helpers place her in a tie for 10th place on the all-time Bison chart.
Raczek is tied for the Patriot League lead in assists with Lafayette's Jaclyn DiSanti. Earlier this season, Raczek tied a Bison single-game record with three assists in one contest, as she was credited with an assist on all three Bucknell goals in a 3-0 win over Saint Joseph's. Razcek has three multi-assist games this year.
Bucknell trailed Lehigh 1-0 on Saturday, until Raczek tied the score 13 minutes, 45 seconds into the second half. It was the first goal of her career. The sophomore then assisted on classmate Kelly Bruvik's (Skillman, N.J./Stuart Country Day) goal with 87 seconds remaining in the contest.
Raczek is the third Bison to win a league award this year and the second field hockey player to be named Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week. Faust was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week and Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week on Sept. 15, and freshman goalkeeper Sarah Zargarpour (North Vancouver, Canada/Handsworth Secondary) received Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors on Oct. 6.
Bucknell returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 14, hosting No. 13 Penn State at Graham Field at Holmes Stadium. The Nittany Lions (9-4) have won five consecutive games, including three over nationally ranked opponents. Penn State appeared in the 2007 Division I NCAA Championship game, losing to North Carolina, 3-0. The Bison hosted Penn State last year, and lost to the national runner-up, 6-1.
Tuesday's game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m., and will be available to watch via Bison Vision at www.BucknellBison.com.
