LEWISBURG, Pa. -- In only her third collegiate tournament, Bucknell freshman Minjoo Lee (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) shattered the school record with a final-round 72 on Saturday at the Rutgers Invitational. Lee's milestone round helped the Bison shoot 320 as a team and move up three spots to a fourth-place finish in a 16-team field.
With a terrific closing round at the par-72 Rutgers University Golf Course, Lee became the first player in the 11-year history of the Bucknell women's golf program to shoot even par or better.
Coupled with an opening-round 83, Lee finished in eighth place out of 92 golfers. Fellow freshmen Brittany Rendell (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier), who shot 77 on Friday, and Kelsey Meybin (Midlothian, Va./Saint Gertrude) both finished with 82s. Deirdre Moran (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) closed with an 84.
Boston College posted a final-round 310 to come from behind and beat Lehigh by four shots for the team title. Albany was third with a 36-hole total of 635, followed by Bucknell at 648, Fairleigh Dickinson at 649, Penn at 651, Sacred Heart at 654, and host Rutgers at 655. The Bison entered the day in a three-way tie for seventh place.
Livia Amado won the individual medal with rounds of 74 and 73. Her 3-over total was good for a five-stroke victory.
Celine Herbin, who spent one season in the Bucknell program in 2003-04, twice shot a 73, which had been the school record until Saturday.
Immediately after the round the Bison drove to Virginia for the Richmond Spider Invitational, which will take place Monday and Tuesday at Independence GC in Midlothian, Va., Meybin's hometown.
