LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell sophomore Luke Trafton (Bath, Maine/Morse) was named the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday, marking the first time in his career he has earned the award.
Trafton posted two individual wins against Lehigh last Saturday, helping the Bison defeat the Mountain Hawks, 164-134. The victory marked the first time the Orange and Blue had defeated Lehigh in a road dual meet since 1992.
Trafton took first in the 500 free with a time of four minutes, 42.36 seconds, and in the 1,000 free, clocking in at 9:43.87. He also scored in the 200 fly, placing third in 1:59.25.
So far in his sophomore season, Trafton has posted 10 individual wins, including three in the 1,000 free, two in the 500 free, two in the 200 fly and one each in the 200 free and 1,650 free. At Princeton's Big Al Open, Trafton entered Bucknell's top-10 list for the 200 fly, swimming a career-best time of 1:55.70, 10th fastest in Bison history.
As a freshman in 2006-07, Trafton won a Patriot League title in the 1,650 free and was named the league's Rookie of the Meet. He set three school records that weekend in the 500 free (4:30.90), 1,000 free (9:30.50) and the 1,650 free (15:39.68).
The Bison, who finished the 2007-08 dual meet portion of their schedule with their best record since the 2000-01 season at 6-2 overall and 5-1 in the Patriot League, will be in search of the second league title in program history when the squad competes at the Patriot League Championships on Feb. 21-23 in Annapolis, Md.
