Bucknell Wrestling Collects Pair of Victories at Liberty Quad Meet

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Bucknell wrestling team collected a pair of victories in a quad meet at Liberty on Saturday, defeating Liberty, 25-9, and The Citadel, 22-12. With the wins, the Bison level their record at 7-7-1 on the year in duals.
Against the Flames, Bucknell began with a 6-0 advantage after wins by sophomore Greg Hart (Bedminster, N.J./Bernards) at 125 and his classmate David Marble (Harpursville, N.Y./Harpursville Central) at 133. Hart posted a 6-2 decision over Sean Katz and Marble, who was tabbed 15th in the latest InterMat/NWCA/NWMA Division I Individual Rankings, logged a 7-5 decision against T.J. Mitchell.
Liberty answered back as Tim Harner pinned sophomore Luke Chohany (Duncannon, Pa./Susquenita) 1:57 into the 141-pound bout to tie the score at six, but the Bison followed up by rattling off wins at the next six weights.
At 149, freshman Kevin LeValley (Hugo, Colo./Limon) put the Orange and Blue back on top with a 10-0 major decision over Scott Clymer. Sophomore 157-pounder Brantley Hooks (Spartanburg, S.C./James F. Byrnes) then registered a 4-2 sudden victory against Shaun Smith.
Sophomore Andy Rendos (Brockway, Pa./Brockway Area), ranked19th nationally at 165, collected a 9-4 decision versus Chad Porter and sophomore Shane Riccio (Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills) improved to 9-1 in duals on the year with a 4-0 win over Aaron Kelley at 174.
Freshman David Thompson (West Liberty, Ohio/Graham Local) clinched the victory for the Bison with his 7-6 decision over Chris Daggett at 184 and freshman Charlie Wonsettler (Scenery Hill, Pa./Bentworth) added Bucknell's final three points with a 8-4 win versus Jacobi Johnson.
The Flames then captured the final bout as Patrick Walker defeated sophomore heavyweight George Hingson (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area), 4-0.
In Bucknell's 22-12 victory over The Citadel, the Bulldogs stuck first with a 5-2 decision by Tyler Sim over Hart in the 125-pound match-up.
The Bison quickly recovered by taking a 4-3 lead after Marble's 14-4 major decision at 133 against Anthony Easter. Chohany then added another bonus point win for the Orange and Blue, as the 141-pounder posted a 16-4 major decision versus Kirby Thompson.
LeValley won his bout at 149 by the score of 5-0 over Derek Royster and Hooks recorded a 6-2 victory in the 157 match-up against Keith Koziel.
Rendos added more bonus points for Bucknell with a 25-9 technical fall over Brendan Prince at 165 and Riccio posted the final win for the Bison, a 7-2 decision versus Derek Sickel at 174.
The Citadel closed out the meet by taking the final three bouts. Thompson lost to Darius Caldwell at 174 and Wonsettler came up short against John Buck at 197, both by 5-2 margins.
In the heavyweight match-up, senior Stephen Rivera (Orlando, Fla./Colonial) was edged by Aaron Brown, 3-2.
Bucknell will close out its weekend trip to Virginia tomorrow, Sunday, Jan. 26, with a dual-meet at No. 22 Old Dominion that is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
