Bucknell Women's Swimming & Diving Falls to Columbia, 163.5-79.5

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's swimming and diving team closed out the home portion of its 2007-08 schedule against Columbia of Friday evening in Kinney Natatorium and fell to the Lions, 163.5-79.5. Following the setback, the Bison are now 2-5 on the year, while Columbia improves to 6-1.
Senior Kristen Skroski (North Haven, Conn./Hopkins) and sophomore Abigail Atkinson (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) both posted runner-up performances. Skroski's came in the 200 free as she reached the wall in one minute, 55.74 seconds. Atkinson took second in the 200 back with a time of 2:09.79, while sophomore Lauren Russell (Lower Burrell, Pa./Burrell) placed fourth in 2:11.51.
Bucknell's divers provided the other two second-place performances. Sophomore Rebecca Bersani (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) was the runner-up on the one-meter board with a mark of 229.95 and classmate Allison FitzPatrick (Berwyn, Pa./Episcopal) took second in the three-meter competition, scoring 238.73 points. Sophomore Eliza Massie (Rochester, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) placed third on both the one-meter and three-meter boards, with scores of 226.42 and 237.75, respectively.
Sophomore Megan Mongan (Malvern, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) tied for third in the 50 free with a time of 24.91 and freshman Molly Goebel (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) placed third in the 100 free (54.57).
Freshman Sinead O'Dwyer (Green River, Wyo./The Peddie School (N.J.)) was Bucknell's top finisher in the 1,000 free, taking fourth in 11:03.84, and sophomore Abigail Paules (York, Pa./Baltimore Lutheran) claimed fourth in the 200 fly with time of 2:13.81.
Facing exhibition swimmers from Columbia in the 500 free, sophomore Sarah Pease (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin Senior High) posted third-fastest time, 5:16.67, and freshman Katie John (Barrington, R.I./Barrington) followed with a time of 5:17.38.
In the 200 breast, junior Kelly Morris (Metuchen, N.J./Metuchen) had the third-fastest time (2:27.43) and Atkinson the fourth-best mark (2:29.00) against exhibition competition.
The Bison 400 free relay squad of Mongan, junior Alexandra Lovallo (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield), junior Susan Horstmann (Havertown, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) and Skroski closed out the meet with a second-place showing, combining for a time of 3:38.55.
Bucknell continues its weekend action tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 19, as the squad will travel to West Point, N.Y., to take on Army in a Patriot League dual meet, beginning at 1 p.m.
