Bucknell Wrestling Set for Trip to Virginia Duals

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell wrestling squad will take to the road this weekend as the Orange and Blue will travel to Hampton, Va., for the two-day Virginia Duals this Friday and Saturday, Jan. 11-12. In the first round of action in the 16-team field, the Bison will face seventh-seeded Kent State on Friday beginning at 11 a.m. and will take on either No. 2-seed Illinois or EIWA foe Lehigh in the second round at 3 p.m. Coming off a split last weekend against No. 8 Missouri and Wagner, Bucknell is 4-5 on the season (1-1 EIWA).

A Look at Bucknell's Probable Starters
- 125: Freshman José Matos (Williamstown, N.J./St. Augustine Prep) or Greg Hart (Bedminster, N.J./Bernards) will start at this weight. Matos is 11-9 (2-4) overall after splitting his matches last weekend against No. 8 Missouri and Wagner. Hart holds a record of 10-5 on the year (2-1 duals) and finished third at the Shorty Hitchcock Classic this past Saturday.
- 133: Sophomore co-captain David Marble (Harpursville, N.Y./Harpursville Area), ranked No. 16 at this weigh in the latest InterMat/NWMA/NWCA Division I Individual Rankings, holds a record of 14-3 overall. He is tied with a team-best record of 7-2 in duals and has won his last five straight, including two pins and one major decision. Against Missouri, Marble posted a 16-9 upset victory over then-ranked No. 9 Tyler McCormick.
- 141: Sophomore Luke Chohany (Duncannon, Pa./Susquenita) or freshman Eric Harris (Green River, Wyo./Green River) will start at this weight. Chohany is 12-6 overall with a duals record of 5-1, winning his last five straight duals bouts, including a 5-2 victory over Missouri's Marcus Hoehn. Harris is currently 6-9 overall and 0-3 in duals.
- 149: Freshman Kevin LeValley (Hugo, Colo./Limon) is 14-6 overall on the season with a duals mark of 6-3, winning five of his last six duals matches with three coming for bonus points. LeValley is among the EIWA leaders in major decisions with eight on the year and is tied for the team lead in that category.
- 157: Sophomore Brantley Hooks (Spartanburg, S.C./James F. Byrnes) or freshman Scott Sechler (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh) will start at this weight. Hooks is 5-5 overall with a 1-2 mark in duals, picking up his first dual-meet win of the year last Sunday against Wagner's Sean Quinn, 6-3. Sechler is 6-8 overall (0-0 duals) after last competing at the Shorty Hitchcock Classic on Jan. 5.
- 165: Sophomore co-captain Andy Rendos (Brockway, Pa./Brockway Area) is currently ranked 19th nationally and paces the Bison with a record of 15-4 (7-2 duals). Out of his 15 wins, 11 have been for bonus points, including the last five in a row. Three of Rendos' four losses have come against ranked foes including a narrow 3-2 setback against No. 4 Nicholas Marable of Missouri last Friday. He is currently tied with LeValley for the team lead in major decisions with eight.
- 174: Sophomore Shane Riccio (Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills) or freshman Rob Waltko (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) will start at this weight. Riccio holds an overall record of 12-6 and is 5-1 in duals after going 2-0 against Missouri and Wagner last weekend. In Bucknell's win over the Seahawks this past Sunday, Riccio picked up his first bonus point win of the season, pinning Wagner's Peter Morano in 1:50. Waltko is 11-10 on the season (0-3) in duals and went 4-2 at the Shorty Hitchcock Classic this past Saturday.
- 184: Freshman David Thompson (West Liberty, Ohio/Graham Local) or freshman Jay Hahn (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) will start at this weight. Thompson's overall record is 13-5, while he is 6-3 in duals with four wins coming for bonus points. In total, Thompson has posted two pins, one technical fall and three major decisions. Hahn holds a record of 4-8 (0-0 duals) with one fall and one major decision.
- 197: Freshman Charlie Wonsettler (Scenery Hill, Pa./North Allegheny) is 9-8 on the year (3-2 duals) and is 5-4 since moving up to this weight from 184. He recorded his first bonus-point victory as a 197-pounder last Sunday against Wagner, pinning Anthony Interiano in 2:28.
- 285: Sophomore co-captain George Hingson (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) holds an overall record of 14-6 (6-3 duals), with four pins. He has posted wins in three of his last four bouts.
Scouting Kent State
- The Golden Flashes are 4-2 on the season with wins over Drexel (29-12), East Stroudsburg (35-3), Pitt-Johnstown (34-6) and Clarion (24-9) to their credit, while dropping duals to then-No. 7 Michigan (26-14) and No. 12 Ohio State (27-6). Kent State has five wrestlers currently in the top-20 nationally: Dan Mitchell (19-3) is 13th at 133, Drew Lashaway (17-5) is 14th at 141, Kurt Gross (15-4) is 16th at 165, Eric Chine (20-8) is 20th at 184 and Jermail Porter (18-7) is 17th at heavyweight.
Last Time the Bison Took the Mat
- The Bucknell wrestling team closed out its weekend road trip with a 47-0 victory over Wagner last Sunday evening, Jan. 6, at the New York Athletic Club. The Bison recorded five wins by fall in the contest and logged two major decisions in their second shutout of the season.
