Bucknell Tennis Wraps Up Weekend At Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - Junior Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon) led the Bucknell tennis team at the Bloomsburg Invitational with an undefeated weekend. After day two of the tournament, Bucknell won on the men's side over Binghamton, Niagara, and Bloomsburg, while Binghamton took first for the women.
The Bison men won six singles matches and four doubles matches on Sunday, recording a total of nine singles wins and 15 doubles victories for the weekend.
Coming off one doubles and one singles win on Saturday, Sandburg paired with junior Jonathan Brenner (Manhasset, N.Y./Chaminade) on Sunday to defeat Gal and Chow of Bloomsburg, 9-7. Also on day two, Sandburg won his match against Zenaty of Bloomsburg, 6-2, 6-2.
Also in doubles action Sunday, junior Jamie Watson and sophomore Peter Eyvazzadeh (Bethlehem, Pa./Moravian Academy) went 8-4 over Nuehfer and Whitely of Bloomsburg. Sophomore Zach Hascoe (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick) and senior Ira Reibeisen (Armonk, N.Y./Rye Country Day Upper School) defeated Zenaty and Neuhfer of Bloomsburg, 8-5 and senior Ben Young (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) and freshman Mark Malloy (Bronxville, N.Y./Hackley School) won 8-2 against Hummel and Glubo of Bloomsburg.
Reibesen went on to defeat Gal of Bloomsburg, 6-2, 6-4 in singles. Malloy picked up a win over Hummel of Bloomsburg, 6-1, 6-0 and Young defeated Phillips of Bloomsburg, 6-0, 5-7, 10-6. Additionally, junior Daniel Bednarek (Haworth, N.J./Bergen Catholic) went 6-4, 6-2 over Nick Bolea of Niagara.
On the women's side, Bucknell recorded eight singles wins and two doubles wins on day two, bringing the Bison to 12 singles and five doubles victories for the weekend.
In doubles action, sophomore JoAnna Grossman (Florham Park, N.J./Hanover Park) paired with sophomore Megan Lee (Middleburg, Va./Wakefield) to defeat Manca and Fisher of Bloomsburg 8-5. Freshman Dara Dwojewski (Chester, N.J./West Morris Mendham) and senior Caitlin Baffa (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills High School East) went 8-2 over Nissenbaum and Hasyn of Bloomsburg.
Lee went on to post two wins in singles, over Carney of Bloomsburg, 6-2, 6-2, and Manca of Bloomsburg, 6-4, 6-3. Junior Tiffany Card (Little Silver, N.J./Red Bank Regional) also had two singles wins over Manca of Bloomsburg, 6-1,6-1, and Nicole Scarangella of Binghamton, 3-6, 6-3, 10-3.
Sophomore Kirstyn Sotak (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Hathaway Brown) went 6-2, 6-2 over Carney of Bloomsburg and junior Paulina Gamboa (Mexico City, Mexico/Greengates School) won her match over Cunningham of Bloomsburg, 6-1, 6-1. Also tallying singles wins for Bucknell on day two were Dwojewski over Nissenbaum of Bloomsburg, 6-3, 6-0 and junior Camille Simonetti (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) against Fisher of Bloomsburg, 6-2, 6-0.
The Bucknell men's tennis team is now set to travel to Providence R.I., Sept. 14 - 15 for the Brown Invitational. The women will go to West Point N.Y. next weekend for the Eastern Championships, Sept. 14 - 16.
