PITTSBURGH, Pa. - For the third time in three games this season the Bucknell men's soccer team went to overtime Saturday night against Duquesne. The Bison came away with a 0-0 tie as they moved to 0-1-2 and concluded their season-opening road trip.
Joey Kuterbach (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood) faced 15 Duquesne (0-1-1) shots and made three saves as he returned after missing most the second half and overtime of last week's loss to Northwestern. His counterpart, Chris Torres, stopped seven of the Bison's 20 shots. The shutout was the 11th of Kuterbach's career as he moved into fifth place on the Bucknell career list.
Bucknell, which has gone to overtime in six of its last seven matches, is now 0-2-1 all-time against the Dukes.
The match was a physical one that featured 34 total fouls and six yellow cards, three for each team. The fouls were relatively even during regulation as Duquesne was whistled for 14 and Bucknell 13, but in the overtime periods the Dukes racked up six more compared to just one for the Bison.
Bucknell faced a large deficit in corner kicks, especially in regulation. Overall, Duquesne held an 11-6 edge, including 11-3 in regulation.
The Bison, who play five of their first six matches away from home, will play their home opener on Tuesday, Sept. 11, when they host Binghamton at Varsity Soccer Field. Kickoff for the match, which features a pair of teams that made the 2006 NCAA Tournament is 4 p.m.
