Bucknell Field Hockey Faces Towson At Home

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell field hockey team, now 2-1 on the year, is set to face the Towson Tigers at Graham Field on Tuesday. The Bison are coming off an 8-2 win over Monmouth last Saturday, in the home opener. Tuesday's game will begin at 7 p.m.
Bison Field Hockey Notebook
On the Towson Tigers -
- Towson is 1-1 on the year, posting a win over Sacred Heart on Aug. 25 (6-1) and a loss against No. 5 UConn on Aug. 26 (3-1).
- The Tigers have posted seven goals on 27 shots, and have allowed four goals on 25 opponent shots in 2007.
- Sophomore Christina Boarman leads the squad with 10 points. She has notched five goals for the Tigers in the past two games.
- Following Boarman is senior Kajee Murangi with four points (2g) on the season.
- Senior goalkeeper Michelle Cheek has made 11 saves, allowing an average of two goals and posting a save percentage of 0.733 in 140 minutes of play.
- In 2006, the Bison played the Tigers at Towson on Sept. 6 and recorded Bucknell's first loss of the season (2-1).
On the Bison Against Monmouth -
- Bucknell defeated Monmouth 8-2 in the first home game of the season; the Bison outshot the Hawks 26-7.
- Junior Amanda Faust (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) led Bucknell in the contest, notching two goals and one assist. Her first came at 52:29 and second was the final goal for the Bison, at 62:37 into play.
- Senior Chyncia Smith (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) put the first goal on the board for the Bison at 17:31 into play after a scramble in front of the goal.
- Junior Jacquie Kataneksza (Harare, Zimbabwe/Arundel School) posted her second goal of the season off a feed from freshman Corinne Raczek (Ocean Township, N.J./Ocean Township) in the 22nd minute.
- Just 29 seconds into the second period, junior Trina Boyer (Macungie, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) netted her second of the season off a feed from sophomore Megan Krebs (Wilkes Barre, Pa./GAR Memorial).
- Also in the second half, freshman Morgan Kauffman (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor) tipped the ball into the goal off a pass from freshman Christine Weiss (Bethlehem, Pa./Southern Lehigh) for the first of her collegiate career.
- Krebs tallied her second goal of the season in the 41st minute of play off Faust's feed.
- Sophomore Austin Thomas (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) shot the ball into the far corner past the goalie, off a feed from junior Sarah Herrmann (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) in the 60th minute, for her first of the season.
- Thomas, along with junior Katie Ruiz (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) assisted Faust in Bucknell's last goal, bringing the final score 8-1.
- Both of the Hawks' goals were scored by Kelly Crist, with the first coming at 26:28 into the contest, and the second coming with under six minutes left in the second half.
- Bucknell goalkeeper, sophomore Jessie Atieh (North Caldewell, N.J./West Essex) made three saves for the Bison.
- Monmouth's goalkeepers, Melissa Katz and Megan Smith split time, with Katz making all of the Hawks' 11 saves.
On the Bison in 2007 -
- Bucknell is 2-1 on the year. The Bison defeated Kent State and Monmouth, and were defeated by No. 13 Ohio State in the final game of the Buckeye Invitational.
- Overall, the Bison have notched 12 goals on 44 shots this season and have allowed 10 goals on 33 opponent shots.
- After three games, Faust and Krebs lead the Bison with six points each (2g, 2a), followed by Boyer and Kataneksza with four points each (2g).
- Kataneksza leads Bucknell with a shot percentage of 1.000, with two goals off of two shots for the year.
- With a shot on goal percentage of 1.000, Krebs is at the top of the list for the category. She has had four shots and four shots on goal for the season.
- Atieh has made a total of 12 saves in three games. She has allowed an average of 3.27 goals and has posted a cumulative save percentage of 0.545 in 213:49 of play.
- American leads the Patriot League with a record of 4-0 (1.000), followed by Bucknell (2-1; 0.667) and Holy Cross rounding out the top-three (1-1, 0.500).
