LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell women's soccer freshman Kelliann Doherty (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) was named the Patriot League BRINE Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. The honor was the first for Doherty in her career and marked the third weekly award earned by a Bison this season.
Doherty helped Bucknell to a 1-1 week, netting the lone goal in the squad's 1-0 overtime victory over Cornell this past Sunday on Varsity Soccer Field. With 21 seconds remaining in the extra period, Doherty collected a throw-in pass from sophomore Chelsea McGorry (Charlton, Mass/Shepherd Hill Regional) and drove a shot past goalkeeper Jodi Palmer for her first career game winner.
Through eight matches, Doherty ranks third on the Bison roster in points with nine and is second in goals with four.
Bucknell is currently 4-4-0 on the season and will next take on Marist on Friday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m. on Varsity Soccer Field. The match will be carried live via internet video broadcast, available for a subscription fee through www.BucknellBison.com.
