Bucknell Field Hockey Hosts Georgetown Saturday

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell field hockey team is set to host its fourth consecutive game at home Saturday against Georgetown. The Bison are coming off shutouts against Saint Francis (Pa.), 4-0, this past Tuesday and against La Salle last Friday, 1-0. Saturday's match-up is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
Bison Field Hockey Notebook
On the Georgetown Hoyas -
- Georgetown holds a 2-6 record this season, picking up wins against Saint Francis (Pa.), 4-1, and Brown, 1-0. The Hoyas have dropped games to James Madison, Appalachian State, Virginia Commonwealth, Lehigh, Towson, and Providence.
- The Hoyas have scored 14 goals off 112 shot attempts this season, posting a shot percentage of .125. Georgetown has allowed an average of 1.69 goals per game.
- Junior Katie Lachman leads the Hoyas with 12 points (5g, 2a) followed by freshman Micaela O'Toole with seven points (3g, 1a).
- Junior goalkeeper Deirdre Crovo and freshman goalkeeper Tiffany Kaszuba have split time this season. Crova has played five games, making 30 saves and recording a save percentage of .652. Kaszuba has played three games, making 12 saves and recording a save percentage of .500.
- Last season, the Bison faced Georgetown in Washington, D.C. on Sept. 23 and the Hoyas came away with the win, 4-3.
On Bucknell Against Saint Francis (Pa.) -
- Bucknell topped Saint Francis (Pa.), 4-0, at home this past Tuesday night to bring the Bison to 5-3 on the season. The victory marked Bucknell's second shutout of the season, with the first coming last Friday against La Salle, 1-0.
- The Bison out-shot the Red Flash (0-7), 27-3 to bring home the win.
- Sophomore Megan Krebs (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./GAR Memorial) put the first goal on the board for Bucknell, at 28 minutes 37 seconds into the game. Krebs' tally, coming off an assist by junior Emily Hutchison (Leola, Pa. /Conestoga Valley), was her sixth of the season.
- Senior Kelly Hoffman (Boyertown, Pa./Oley Valley) recorded her fifth goal of the season at 32:39 into play. Hoffman scored off a rebound after freshman Kelly Bruvik's (Skillman, N.J./Stuart Country Day) initial shot on goal was saved.
- The Bison scored their third tally just under three minutes into the second half when junior Trina Boyer (Macungie, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) tipped the ball in the net off an assist by junior Amanda Faust (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) following a penalty corner.
- Bruvik went on to notch her first career goal with less than eight minutes left in the contest. Bruvik went unassisted, tapping the ball in one-handed from a tough angle along the end line.
- Sophomore Diana Bartley (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) made her second-straight start in goal and recorded her second shutout in five days after earning Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week Honors on Monday. Red Flash goalkeeper Erin Reifsteck made 13 saves for Saint Francis (Pa.).
On the Bison in 2007 -
- Bucknell holds a 5-3 record on the season, defeating Kent State, 3-2, Monmouth, 8-2, Towson, 4-3, La Salle, 1-0, and Saint Francis (Pa.), 4-0. The Bison have fallen to then-No. 13 Ohio State, then-No.17 Delaware, and Lock Haven.
- The Orange and Blue have tallied two shutouts at home. The first came against La Salle in overtime (1-0) and the second against Saint Francis (Pa.) (4-0).
- In eight games, Bucknell has scored 25 goals off 109 shots, recording a shot percentage of .229. The Bison have allowed an average of 3.03 goals per game.
- Krebs leads Bucknell with 19 points (6g, 3a) and is the leading scorer for the Bison with six goals on the year. Hoffman follows with 11 points (5g, 1a) and Faust has tallied nine points (2g, 5a).
- Sophomore goalkeeper Jessie Atieh (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex) has played six games this season, recording 33 saves, a save percentage of .589, and goals against average of 3.80.
- Goalkeeper Bartley has played two games and helped secure both of Bucknell's shutouts this season. She has made eight saves for a save percentage of 1.000.
Honors and Rankings -
- Bucknell is second in the Patriot League with a record of 5-3 and winning percentage of .625. American leads the way with an 8-1 record and .889 winning percentage.
- Last week, Krebs took Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week honors for posting four points by notching a goal against Lock Haven, and netting the game-winning score against La Salle in the extra period. Bartley was named Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week last Monday, for recording eight saves in her first game of the season, to help the Bison secure their first shutout in 2007.
- Faust tabbed Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week Honors on Sept. 4 after leading the Bison to an 8-2 victory over Monmouth in the home opener on Sept. 1.
- On Aug. 27, Krebs was named Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week for making a 3-2 win against Kent State possible for Bucknell by scoring the goal that tied the score and having the game-winning assist in overtime.
Looking Ahead -
- The Bison will travel to Bethlehem, Pa. next weekend, for their first Patriot League match-up. Bucknell will face Lehigh on Saturday, Sept. 29 before heading back home for games against American on Oct. 6 and Penn on Oct. 7.
