Bucknell Women's Soccer to Visit Robert Morris on Saturday

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's soccer team will break from its home stand this Saturday, Sept. 15, as the Bison will travel to Moon Township, Pa., to face Robert Morris in a match that is set to kick off at 11 a.m. Bucknell will be looking to push its winning streak to three straight as the Bison sit at 3-2 on the year following victories over UMBC and Saint Francis (Pa.).

About the Series
- In the all-time series with Robert Morris, which began on Oct. 17, 1993, Bucknell holds a 7-0-1 advantage. Last time the squads met on Sept. 17, 2006, the Bison collected a 4-1 win in Lewisburg, Pa. Senior co-captain Krista Lee Gentile (North Haledon, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) scored twice in the contest, junior Jennifer Dervarics (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) registered a goal and an assist, while classmate Kelly Boswell (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) had a career-high four points, tallying the game winner and dishing two assists. Current sophomore Daneen Stevenato added the lone goal for the Colonials.
- The one draw series history occurred on Oct. 6, 2002, 3-3, in Lewisburg.
Scouting the Colonials
- The Colonials are 1-4 on the season with a victory over Youngstown State (1-0), while falling to Alabama (3-1), Penn (4-1), Saint Joseph's (1-0) and Villanova (3-1). Robert Morris has four goals on the year with Chelsea Miazgowicz, Jaimie Morra, Jennifer Tobar and Heather Niznik tallying one apiece. Kathleen Caggiano has recorded the only two assists for the Colonials for her two points. Jessica Onufer has stared all five contests in goal, playing a total of 449:27 minutes. She has allowed 11 goals for a 2.20 GAA, and has made 34 saves for a .756 save percentage.
Last Time Out
- Bucknell posted a 5-2 win over Saint Francis (Pa.) on Varsity Soccer Field this past Wednesday for its second straight victory. The Bison opened strong, connecting for five goals on six shots in the first half. Freshman Kelliann Doherty (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) tallied two goals in the contest. Freshman Christa Matlack (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport Area) scored the game winner and dished an assist. Dervarics recorded three assists in the contest, while Gentile and sophomore Molly Linhart (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel Area) each contributed a goal on the evening.
About the Bison
- The Bison have played five matches so far, three on the road, two at home, and have collected wins over Sacred Heart (1-0), UMBC (5-1) and Saint Francis (Pa.) (5-2).
- Dervarics leads Bucknell in points with 10 on three goals and four assists. She scored the game winner at Sacred Heart and matched her career high with five points against UMBC, while recording three assists against Saint Francis (Pa.).
- Matlack follows Dervarics with nine points on four goals and one assist. She scored the first of her career at No. 12 Rutgers in the 57th minute to give Bucknell a 1-0 lead in that contest. Against UMBC, she netted the first two of the game, including the deciding tally. She carries a three-game scoring streak into Saturday's match.
- Doherty scored her first of her career at Yale and dished an assist in the win over UMBC. With her two tallies against Saint Francis (Pa.), she now has seven points on the season (3g, 1a).
- Sophomore Kathryn Sutton (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area) has played all 450 minutes in net for the Bison and holds a 1.60 goals against average and a .765 save percentage. She has made a total of 26 saves and recorded her first career shutout against Sacred Heart on Sept. 2. Against No. 12 Rutgers, she made a career-high 10 saves.
Home Sweet Home
- Just beginning its third season of competition on Varsity Soccer Field, the Bucknell women's soccer team has compiled a 15-3-0 record at its home facility, including a 6-0-0 mark at home during the regular season in 2006. The Bison have not suffered a regular season loss at home since Oct. 11, 2005 (1-0 to Lehigh).
Bison Milestones
- On Wednesday, Sept., 12, Bucknell played its 300th in match in program history, celebrating with a 5-2 win over Saint Francis (Pa.). The program currently holds an all-time record of 140-144-16 (.493).
- With 41 career points, Dervarics is currently one shy of Bucknell's top-10 all time in that category. Her second tally against UMBC moved her into 10th in Bison history for career goals. After registering three assists against Saint Francis (Pa.), she is now tied for eighth in career assists with 11.
- Gentile is one goal away from tying Kerry McDonnell for third in program history as her next tally will be the 30th of her career. She is eight shy of passing McDonnell on the career points list. Gentile is also three away from breaking Bucknell's career game winning goals record, held by Lisa Gibbons with 15.
Youth Movement
- Over the past two games, Bucknell's starting lineup has consisted of one senior, one junior, four sophomores and five freshmen. In addition to freshmen Amanda Citron (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield), Caitlin Holtz (Freehold, N.J./Peddie School), Doherty and Matlack all making their first career starts on Aug. 31 vs. Yale, it marked the first career starts for sophomores Chelsea Brinkman (Clearwater, Fla./Palm Harbor University High School), Linhart and Sutton. Freshman Kelsey Johnson (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) has also appeared in the starting lineup, as well.
Weekly Awards and Honors
- Dervarics was named Patriot League Honorable Mention on Sept. 4, after scoring the game winner at Sacred Heart.
- Matlack earned her first Patriot League BRINE Rookie of the Week honor on Monday, Sept. 10, after recording a three-goal week with one at Rutgers and two against UMBC, including her first career game winner.
- Sutton picked up her first career Patriot League BRINE Goalkeeper of the Week award on Monday, Sept. 10, for her 10-save performance at Rutgers and her win over UMBC.
In the Polls
- The Bison were selected second in the Patriot League preseason poll, the team's highest ranking since 2002 (2nd with 78 points, three first-place votes, also 2nd in 1996). The Bison totaled 85 points, which is their most ever in the preseason poll.
Looking Ahead
- Bucknell will return home for three straight contests, starting with a match against No. 20 Penn State on Wednesday, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m. on Varsity Soccer Field.
