Bucknell Men's Tennis Continues Fall Season At Brown This Weekend

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's tennis team is set to travel to Providence, R.I., for the Brown Invitational this weekend. The tournament will run Friday, Sept. 14 - Sunday, Sept. 16. The Bison opened the 2007 fall season last weekend with a first-place finish at the Bloomsburg Invitational.

Last Weekend at the Bloomsburg Invitational -
- The Bucknell men's tennis team opened 2007 at the Bloomsburg Invitational, defeating Bloomsburg, Binghamton, and Niagara.
- On the men's side, the Bison won 11 singles matches and three doubles matches on day one. Bucknell went on to collect six singles and four doubles victories on Sunday, recording a total of nine singles wins and 15 doubles wins for the weekend.
- In doubles action on Saturday, senior Ben Young (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) paired with freshman Mark Malloy (Bronxville, N.Y./Hackley School) to defeat Zenaty and Phillips of Bloomsburg, 8-4. Also in doubles, junior Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon) and junior Jonathan Brenner (Manhasset, N.Y./Chaminade) topped Roman Silin and Marc Dickinson of Niagara 9-8, 7-3, while sophomore Zach Hascoe (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick) and Daniel Bednarek (Haworth, N.J./Bergen Catholic) defeated Nick Bolea and Steve Kopf of Niagara, 8-3.
- In singles on day one, Hascoe went on to pick up a win over Bloomsburg's Chow, 6-7, 6-1, 10-8 and Brenner defeated Nuhfer of Bloomsburg, 6-1, 6-3. Bednarek topped Hummel of Bloomsburg, 6-1, 6-2 and Sandburg won 3-6, 7-6, 10-3 against Dickinson of Niagara. Senior Ira Reibeisen (Armonk, N.Y./Rye Country Day Upper School) won his match over Chow of Bloomsburg, 6-4, 6-3. Sophomore Peter Eyvazzadeh (Bethlehem, Pa./Moravian Academy) tallied two wins over Whitely of Bloomsburg, 7-5, 6-4, and McClurkin of Bloomsburg, 2-6, 6-1, 10-4. Young topped Glubo of Bloomsburg, 6-1, 6-3 and Collin Laffy of Niagara, 6-4, 6-3. Malloy went 6-0, 6-3, over Laffy of Niagara and 6-4, 6-0, over Phillips of Bloomsburg.
- Sunday, Sandburg paired with Brenner to defeat Gal and Chow of Bloomsburg, 9-7. Junior Jamie Watson and Eyvazzadeh went 8-4 over Nuehfer and Whitely of Bloomsburg. Hascoe and Reibeisen defeated Zenaty and Neuhfer of Bloomsburg, 8-5 and Young and Malloy won 8-2 against Hummel and Glubo of Bloomsburg.
- In singles on day two, Sandburg won his match against Zenaty of Bloomsburg, 6-2, 6-2 and Reibesen went on to defeat Gal of Bloomsburg, 6-2, 6-4. Malloy picked up a win over Hummel of Bloomsburg, 6-1, 6-0 and Young defeated Phillips of Bloomsburg, 6-0, 5-7, 10-6. Additionally, Bednarek went 6-4, 6-2 over Nick Bolea of Niagara.
Looking Ahead -
- Reibeisen ranks second at Bucknell for all-time career victories and is approaching 2006 graduate Asher Salam's record of 108 career victories.
- Following the Brown Invitational, the Bucknell men's tennis team will travel to Storrs, Conn. for the Connecticut Invitational, Sept. 28 - 30. The Bison will then host the Bucknell Invitational, Oct. 5 - 7 and will travel to Princeton, N.J. for ITA Regionals, set for Oct. 18 - 20.
