Bucknell Field Hockey Hosts La Salle Friday

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell field hockey team will play the second of four consecutive games at home Friday, when it hosts La Salle at 6 p.m. The Bison (3-3) are coming off a 6-2 loss this past Tuesday night against Lock Haven at Graham Field.
Bison Field Hockey Notebook
On the Explorers -
- La Salle holds a 4-3 record for the year and is coming off a 4-0 win at Robert Morris.
- The Explorers' win at Robert Morris was their third shutout of the season, with the first coming at Monmouth (2-0) on Aug. 25, and the second coming at home against Ball State (3-0) on Aug. 26.
- Additionally, La Salle posted a win against Sacred Heart (4-2) on Sept. 2, and suffered losses against Drexel (3-2) on Aug. 29, Hofstra (3-2) on Sept. 1, and Lock Haven (5-0) on Sept. 8.
- On the season, the Explorers have notched 17 goals off 93 shots and have allowed 13 goals off 102 opponent shots. La Salle has scored an average of 2.33 goals a game and holds a shot average of .183.
- Sophomore Kara Harpel leads La Salle with 12 points on the season (5g, 2a). She is followed by sophomore Colleen Lechner with 10 points (4g, 2a), and junior Maria Allegretto with eight points (3g, 2a).
- Harpel is the Explorers' leading scorer in 2007, with five goals, while Lechner holds the highest shot percentage for La Salle (.667), scoring four goals off six shots.
- Senior goalkeeper Ellen Axelson has made 57 saves in 498:44 of play. She holds a save percentage of .814 and has allowed an average of 1.82 goals a game. Freshman Emma Ruth has recorded 11:06 of play this season.
- Bucknell last faced La Salle on Sept. 28, 2004 at home and La Salle finished ahead, 1-0.
On the Bison Against Lock Haven Tuesday -
- Bucknell fell to Lock Haven, 6-2, on Sept. 11 at Graham Field to bring the Bison to 3-3 on the season.
- The Eagles, now 3-3, took the lead in the first half with a goal 8:15 into play by Renee Kemmerer with a hard shot from the top of the circle. Lock Haven scored again at the 10:41 mark when Blair Wynne netted the ball off a corner.
- Sophomore Megan Krebs (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./GAR Memorial) put the Bison back into the game with her fourth goal of the season, when she scored off an assist from freshman Christine Weiss (Bethlehem, Pa./Southern Lehigh) 19:24 into the contest, bringing the score to 2-1.
- The Eagles then rallied for three goals before the close of the half.
- Just over five minutes into the second period, senior Kelly Hoffman (Boyertown, Pa./Oley Valley) scored off a rebound from a penalty corner for her fourth goal of the season.
- Lock Haven had the final tally In the 53rd minute, bringing the final score to 6-2.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Jessie Atieh (North Caldwell, N.J.) made four saves for the Bison off 10 opponent shots on goal. For the Lock Haven, goalkeeper Erin Terreson made three saves.
On the Bison in 2007 -
- Bucknell is 3-3 in 2007, posting wins over Kent State (3-2), Monmouth (8-2), and Towson (4-3). The Bison have fallen to two nationally-ranked teams, then-No. 13 Ohio State (6-1), and then-No. 17 Delaware (4-2), in addition to last Tuesday's loss against Lock Haven (6-2).
- Friday's match-up against Lock Haven will mark Bucknell's fourth game of the season at home. The Bison have won two of the three games played at Graham Field in 2007.
- The Bison have scored 20 goals off 71 shots for a shot percentage of .282. Additionally, Bucknell has allowed 23 goals off 87 opponent shots for an average of 3.30 goals allowed per game.
- Krebs leads Bucknell with 11 points (4g, 3a), followed by Hoffman with nine points (4g, 1a), and junior Amanda Faust (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) with seven points (2g, 3a).
- Krebs and Hoffman are tied as leading scorers for the Bison, each with four.
- Hoffman holds the highest shot percentage, scoring four goals off four shots (1.000). Senior Lindsey Weller (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) also holds a shot percentage of 1.000, scoring one goal off one shot.
- Atieh has made 33 saves for the Bison in 423:49 of play. She holds a save percentage of .589 and has allowed an average of 3.80 goals per game.
- The Bison are currently ranked third in the Patriot League with a winning percentage of .500, behind American in first (6-0; 1.000) and Colgate in second (3-2; .600).
Looking Ahead -
- Friday's game against La Salle marks the second of four consecutive games at home for the Bison. Bucknell will host Saint Francis (Pa.) on Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m., and Georgetown on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 12 p.m., before taking to the road on Sept. 29 for Bucknell's first Patriot League match-up of the season against Lehigh.
