Bucknell Field Hockey Hosts Monmouth In Home Opener

LEWISBURG, Pa. - After splitting games with a win and a loss at the Buckeye Invitational, the Bucknell field hockey team will host Monmouth Saturday for the first home game of the season at Graham Field.
Bison Field Hockey Notebook
On the Monmouth Hawks -
- Last season, the Bison were set to play against Monmouth in West Long Branch, N.J. in early September, however the game was cancelled.
- The Hawks are currently 0-1 for the 2007 season, after a 2-0 loss to La Salle in their home opener last weekend.
- Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Melissa Katz made 17 saves, allowing two goals against La Salle.
- Offensively, senior Annie LoPresti took four shots for the Hawks, and recorded three of the team's seven shots on goal in the season opener.
On Bucknell Against Kent State -
- The Bison came back from a two-goal deficit last Saturday against Kent State to notch a 3-2 win in overtime for the first game of the season.
- Junior Jacquie Kataneksza (Harare, Zimbabwe/Arundel School) put the first goal on the board for Bucknell with a tap in from the left side at 47:55 into play.
- Sophomore Megan Krebs (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./GAR Memorial) leveled the score in the 55th minute, netting the ball off of a scramble in front of the goal to force overtime.
- Krebs went on to set up the game-winning goal with an assist to senior Kelly Hoffman (Boyertown, Pa./Oley Valley) off a rebound at 3:49 into the extra period.
- Sophomore goalkeeper, Jessie Atieh (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex) made six saves, allowing two goals against the Golden Flashes.
On Bucknell Against No. 13 Ohio State -
- In their second game at the Buckeye Invitational, the Bison fell, 6-1, to No. 13 Ohio State last Sunday.
- Bucknell got off to a solid start against the Buckeyes, posting a 1-0 lead 17 minutes into play.
- Junior Trina Boyer (Macungie, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) had the lone goal for Bucknell, scoring off a feed from junior Amanda Faust (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) from the front of the net.
- Atieh made three saves against the Buckeyes.
On the Bison in 2007 -
- After the Buckeye Invitational, Bucknell is now 1-1 for the 2007 season.
- Krebs leads the Bison with three points after a goal and an assist against Kent State. Boyer, Kataneksza, and Hoffman all have two points for scoring one goal each last weekend. Faust collected one point for her assist to Boyer against Ohio State.
- Hoffman scored the lone game-winning goal of the season.
- Kataneksza, Krebs, and Hoffman lead Bucknell for both shot percentage and shot on goal percentage. In two games, each have scored one goal off one attempt.
- Bucknell collected three points in the NFHCA Top-20 Division I Preseason Poll, appearing on the list of "others receiving votes".
- The Bison were picked no. 4 in the Patriot League Preseason Poll.
