LEWISBURG, Pa. - On Monday, sophomore Megan Krebs (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./G.A.R. Memorial) earned the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week award. Krebs made a 3-2 win against Kent State possible for the Bucknell field hockey team this weekend; she scored the goal that tied the score and had the game-winning assist in overtime.
The Bison were two goals behind the Golden Flashes at the end of the first half on Saturday. From a scramble in front of the net, it was Krebs' goal at 55:36 that leveled the score and forced overtime. Krebs went on to set up the game-winning goal 3:49 into the extra period. She made an assist to senior Kelly Hoffman (Boyertown, Pa./Oley Valley) to put the Bison ahead 3-2, bringing home Bucknell's first win of the season.
Krebs' goal marked the fourth of her career as a Bison, and her assist was the second of her career.
Going into the 2007 season, head coach Heather Lewis predicted that after a solid spring, Krebs could have the potential to be a top scorer in the Patriot League. "I noticed Megan start to assert herself more in the attacking circle and was noticeably involved in our scoring efforts this past spring," said Lewis "If she continues her improvement, Megan could very easily be a threat opponents will need to contain."
Krebs also started for the Bison on day two of the Buckeye Invitational against Ohio State. Bucknell is now 1-1 for the 2007 season and is set to host Monmouth this weekend for the first home game of the year, Sept. 1 at 2 p.m.
