LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The 2007-08 Bison Athletics calendar kicked off over the weekend with the volleyball and field hockey teams competing on the road, and five more teams open competition this week, including the football season opener on Saturday evening at Duquense. With the fall season heating up, it is also time to resume some of the off-the-field programming that has been a favorite of Bucknell fans throughout the years.
Tuesday marks the year's first meeting of the Lewisburg Touchdown Club at the Lewisburg Hotel on Market Street in downtown Lewisburg. The weekly Tuesday luncheons highlight the Bison football program. Bucknell head coach Tim Landis will be on hand each week along with the team's players of the week to talk about Bucknell's previous game and upcoming opponents. Luncheons begin at 11:45 a.m. and conclude by 1 p.m. Cost for the hot buffet is $10 per person.
Thursday will be the year's first installment of Bison Live!, the weekly radio show that is aired live from Damon's Grill on Rt. 15 and Walter Drive in Lewisburg. Back for its sixth season in 2007-08, Bison Live! is an informative, fast-paced show dedicated to Bucknell athletics that runs from 7-8 p.m. every Thursday evening throughout the school year. Tim Landis is a regular guest during the fall and is joined by coaches and student-athletes from other Bison teams as well. Thursday's debut show will also feature head cross country and track & field coach Kevin Donner and members of his squad.
Bison Live! airs on WMLP 1380-AM in Lewisburg, as well as on the internet at www.BucknellBison.com. For the first time this season, fans can also watch live streaming video of Bison Live! through BucknellBison.com for a small charge. Fans in attendance at Damon's can ask questions on the air and win Bucknell Athletics apparel.
Once again this fall, the Bison Club and Bertoni's Pizza will sponsor bus trips to all five away football games. The bus will leave on game day from in front of the Kenneth Langone Athletics and Recreation Center. Bus tickets alone can be purchased, or fans can buy a package to include both bus and game tickets. Fans wishing to take advantage of this easy and carefree way to travel to Bison games this season should contact Todd Newcomb for reservations at 570-577-1771. And finally, once a month Bison fans are invited to join members of the women's programs at the Bucknell Women's Sports Luncheon, sponsored by K.I.C.K.S. Marshall Arts for Women. Coaches and student-athletes from each of Bucknell's in-season women's varsity sports teams discuss their recent and upcoming contests from 12-1 p.m. in the Center Room, located inside the Elaine Langone Center on campus. Buffet lunch is available for $6.50. The first luncheon is slated for Wednesday, Sept. 12, with others to follow on Oct. 10, Nov. 7, Feb. 13, March 5, Apr. 2 and Apr. 23.
