OMAHA, Neb. - After being named one of 10 national finalists for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award in the Baseball Division, 2007 Bucknell graduate Ryan Gryskevicz (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) earned a spot on the All-Senior All-America Second Team, it was announced this past weekend at the NCAA College World Series.
The All-Senior All-America teams were released in conjunction with the presentation of the first baseball division Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, which was awarded to Emeel Salem of the University of Alabama. Based on the cumulative balloting results of head coach, national media and fan voting, Gryskevicz, Salem and the remaining eight finalists were placed on the All-Senior All-America first and second teams.
The Lowe's Senior CLASS Award program, which expanded beyond basketball this year to include four additional sports for the first time, recognizes senior student-athletes who demonstrate the qualities both on and off the field of what it means to be a complete student-athlete, with specific attention paid to achievements in the classroom and community.
At the 2007 Bucknell Senior Athletic Awards Banquet, Gryskevicz was one of two recipients of the Alvin F. Jackson Memorial Scholar Athlete Award, presented to senior athletes "for outstanding academic and athletic achievement, and future promise as Bucknell alumni." A 2007 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selection and Dean's List member, Gryskevicz carried a 3.71 cumulative grade-point average as an accounting major. He was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in each of his first three years with the Bison, with this year's honor roll still to come.
Gryskevicz was also recognized for his on-field performance this spring as he picked up his second career all-league citation after being named a second-team honoree in 2006. The First Team All-Patriot League outfielder led the Orange and Blue in virtually every offensive category this season, including batting average (.338), slugging percentage (.466), hits (50), RBI (25) and total bases (69) over 39 games. He finished the 2007 campaign ranked fifth in the league in batting average, as well.
A three-year starter for the Bison, Gryskevicz graduated with 126 games played and 121 starts. Over his four seasons with the Orange and Blue, he totaled 64 runs scored, 137 hits, 29 doubles, three triples, six home runs and 69 RBI, with a career batting average of .325 and a .450 career slugging percentage.
Away from the diamond, Gryskevicz served as the president of Bucknell's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and was also involved in additional community service activities as a member of the Mortar Board. He recently volunteered his time at the 2007 NCAA Youth Education through Sports (YES) Baseball Clinic in Omaha, Neb., as well.
