LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell head women's rowing coach Stephen Kish announced Wednesday the addition of 18 student-athletes who will join the Bison program this fall. The Class of 2011 is the second-largest recruiting class in program history and features accomplished rowers from 10 different states.
"I am excited about our strongest recruiting class to date," commented Kish, who earned honors as the Patriot League, Mid-Atlantic Region and Lightweight Coach of the Year this past season. "The coaching staff and returning rowers cannot wait to start working with such a talented group of accomplished junior rowers. The sculling and sweep experience with some of the most prominent junior programs in the country will help this group have an immediate impact on the team's speed."
The recruits fall into one of three categories: coxswains, lightweights and openweights.
Laura Diamond and Arin Mossovitz comprise the third group of experienced coxswains Kish has recruited. The duo will join veterans Katie Kessler, Lauren Lesko, Mary Wilson, Lauren Yee and Jeweliet Yost to form a young, but experienced coxswain contingent.
The lightweight recruits are Elizabeth Barnett, Kelsey Dowd, Cherith Elliott, Stephanie Frank and Blair Rolnick. Once again Kish expects his incoming recruits to have an immediate impact on the overall team, as well as the lightweight group, which has set the standard high with the lightweight eight winning the IRA National Championship earlier this month. In addition to that prestigious title, the lightweight eight has won gold and silver medals at the Dad Vail Regatta in recent years and represented the program at the 2004 Henley Women's Regatta in England.
The openweight list of recruits is the largest, featuring 11 student-athletes. Christina Cabiati, Allegra Colandro, Gina DiDomenico, Victoria Dudley, Ashley Gennings, Kathryn Humphrey, Kathleen Janosco, Anna Johnson, Taylor Jordan, Betsy O'Leary and Carol Schoenecker comprise the openweights, who will try to continue and improve upon the team's success of this past spring that featured team titles at both the Patriot League Championship as well as the ECAC Metro Championship.
Bucknell's 18 recruits will join 38 returning rowers to form the 2007-08 Bison women's rowing squad. Sophie Bird, Katherine Brewster-Duffy, Cara Cox-Steiner, Amanda Gallina, Jessica Glenn, Brittany Kaplan, Jennie Trayes and Amy VanNostrand will form the eight-person senior class, one of the largest in recent memory.
