Bison Track and Field Finishes Opening Day of the NCAA East Regional Championships

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - On the campus of the University of Florida on the Percy Beard Track in James G. Pressly Stadium, the Bucknell men's and women's track and field team competed in the first day of competition at the 2007 NCAA East Regional Championships on Friday. Junior Beverly Rogers (Finleyville, Pa./Ringgold) turned in a 13th-place performance in the javelin with a distance of 145 feet, 11 inches (44.48m).
Also on the women's side, senior Christa Sawko (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) ran a time of 2 minutes, 10.35 seconds in the 800-meter preliminaries, which was good for 14th, but it was not enough for her to qualify for tomorrow's final. Freshman Amy Mantush (Drums, Pa./Hazleton) just missed her final attempt at 5-7 ¼ (1.71m) and was unable to record a mark in the high jump.
On the men's side, junior David Mante (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) cleared a height 16-1 ¼ (4.91m) on his second attempt and moved up to 16-7 (5.06m), but was unable to clear the height. In the hammer throw, senior Tyler Hoffman (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) threw for a distance of 174-11 inches (53.31m), which was good for 27th.
Bucknell will participate in the final day of the NCAA East Regional Championships on Saturday, May 26 at 12 p.m., where seniors Marjorie Grap (Van-Etten, N.Y./Spencer-Van-Etten), Melanie Buczko (Butler, Pa/Butler Area), Matthew Forys (Howell, N.J./Howell) and Joshua Kaehler (Hanover, Pa./South Western), along with junior Christine Totten (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) will look to earn an automatic bid to the 2007 NCAA Championships in Sacramento, Calif.
