TEMPE, Ariz. - For the second consecutive day the Bucknell men's golf team shot an 11-over-par 299 at the NCAA West Regional as the Bison dropped to 27th place overall Friday following the second of three rounds at Arizona State's Karsten Golf Course. Freshman Brian Bartow (Rye, N.Y./Rye Neck) led Bucknell with an even-par 72, seven shots better than his first-round performance.
The Bison are at 22-over for the tournament, but are just one shot behind Monmouth, which resides in 26th place. Bucknell had a solid day going with 14 total birdies among its five players, but seniors Charlie Waddell (Wilmette, Ill./Lake Forest Academy) and Kyle Moran (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick School) shot a combined seven-over on the 18th hole.
With a par on that final hole Waddell, who is the highest-ranking Bison at tied for 78th overall, would have finished at minus-2. However, the two-time Patriot League Champion who was under par the entire round carded a triple-bogey on the 18th hole to finish with a one-over 73. He has a two-day total of 144 to stand at even par.

Bartow parlayed a strong start to his day into the best round of the day for any Bison golfer. He birdied each of the first two holes and four of the first seven.
Bartow's seven-stroke improvement from round one was not the largest on the team as Keita Aoki (Tokyo, Japan/St. Mary's International School) went from a +15 Thursday to a four-over 76 on Friday. The 11-stroke improvement from day one to day two equaled San Diego State's Cory Segall for the best in the 141-player field.
Freshman Andrew Cohen (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) matched Moran by shooting a six-over-par 78 after firing a 73 on Thursday.
UCLA held onto the top spot for the second consecutive day, but leads South Carolina by just one shot. The Bruins carded a 15-under 273 on Friday to move to 35-under. The Gamecocks shot a field-best 269 Friday and are at 34-under. USC's Jamie Lovemark, who registered a 63 Friday, and Arizona State's Benjamin Alvarado are tied for the individual lead at 12-under following two days.
Bucknell is expected to tee off as part of the afternoon session on Saturday as play wraps up at the NCAA West Regional. The top 10 teams in the final standings will advance to the NCAA Championship later this month.
