Bison Men's Track and Field Places Second at Bucknell Team Challenge

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's track team posted a strong second-place showing at the Bucknell Team Challenge with 131 points on Saturday. Finishing before the Bison was Penn State with 170 points, while Saint Francis (Pa.) (100.50), UMBC (73), Lock Haven (62.50), Binghamton (43) and Duquesne (37) finished third thru seventh, respectively. Bucknell notched 10 IC4A qualifying marks with three of them being NCAA East Regional standards.
Freshmen Kyle Anthony (Barryville, N.Y./Eldred Academy), sophomore Kerry Boyle (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton), junior Wallace Campbell (Montgomery, Ala./Montgomery Academy) and senior Tyler Hoffman (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) placed first in their respective events.
Anthony won the triple jump with a mark of 48 feet, 7 ¼ inches (14.81m), which qualified him for the IC4A Championships. He also placed second in the long jump with a distance of 23-10 (7.26m), which was also an IC4A mark and ranks him fourth all-time at Bucknell. Boyle won the 400-meter dash with a time of 47.54 seconds to make himself an IC4A qualifier. His time ranks him third all-time. Campbell posted his victory in the 3,000 with a time of 8:27.85, while Hoffman won the hammer throw with a distance of 196-0 (59.96m), which was an NCAA East Regional and IC4A qualifying mark.
Freshman Steven Pierce (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) and senior Joshua Kaehler (Hanover, Pa./South Western) finished back-to-back in the javelin with NCAA East Regional and IC4A qualifying distances. Pierce finished second with a mark of 212-2 (64.68m), while Kaehler placed third with a distance of 211-10 (64.59m).
Junior David Mante (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) qualified for the IC4A Championships in the pole vault with a height of 16-2 (4.95m), which was good for second place and moved him into second on Bucknell's all-time list. Senior Matthew Forys qualified for his third IC4A Championship event in the 1,500 with a time of 3:50.70.
Senior Richard Simpson (Havre de Grace, Md./Havre de Grace) posted an IC4A mark in the high jump clearing a height of 6-8 ¼ (2.04m) and ranks him third all-time. Kevin Macleod (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) notched a second-place finish in the 400 hurdles with a time of 52.75, which ranks him second all-time. His time also made him an IC4A qualifier.
Bucknell will compete in the Penn Relays, which is a three-day event, starting on Thursday, Apr. 26, in Philadelphia, Pa.
