LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior Ryan Gryskevicz (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) has been selected as one of 30 candidates nationally for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award in the baseball division. The honor will be presented in June to the top senior student-athlete in collegiate baseball who demonstrates the qualities both on and off the field of what it means to be a complete student-athlete, with specific attention paid to achievements in the classroom and community.
In addition to leading the Bison in several offensive categories this spring including batting average (.346), RBI (18) and hits (37), Gryskevicz has excelled off the field as well as he carries a 3.7 cumulative grade-point average as an accounting major. The co-captain is the president of Bucknell's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and is also involved in additional community service activities as a member of the Mortar Board.
The Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, which expanded beyond basketball to other sports for the first time this year, "is designed to honor the attributes of a college senior student athletes who stay in school and pursue the many rewards that a senior season can bring."
This inaugural list of baseball candidates includes nominees from 29 different schools and 19 different conferences with Gryskevicz being the lone representative from the Patriot League. A group of 10 finalists will be selected by a national media committee and will be announced in May. From those ten finalists, a winner will be chosen based on fan voting, votes from coaches, media and sponsors. The winner of the award and the college baseball All-Senior All-America Team will be announced during the 2007 NCAA College World Series.
Heading into today's doubleheader with Lafayette, the Bison are 13-16 with a 5-5 Patriot League record.
