Bucknell Men's Tennis Downs NJIT, 6-1, in Home Opener

LEWISBURG, Pa - The Bucknell men's tennis squad stifled the New Jersey Institute of Technology, 6-1 in its home opener at the Bucknell Varsity Tennis Courts. Junior Ira Reibeisen (Armonk, N.Y./Rye Country Day-Upper) posted two victories against the Highlanders as he increased his career wins total to 90.
Reibeisen teamed with junior Ben Young (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) to defeat Steve Erickson and Ramy Lawandy, 8-3, in No. 2 doubles and then took down Erickson in the No. 1 singles spot, 7-5, 6-2.
The Bison, now 5-9 (0-1 PL), swept NJIT in doubles play, collecting the first point of the match. The team of Jonathan Brenner (Manhasset, N.Y./Chaminade) and Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon) collected their eighth win of the season after defeating Jonathan Lang and Cosmin Chiudea, 8-3, in the No. 1 spot, while sophomore Daniel Bednarek (Haworth, N.J./Bergen Catholic) paired with freshman Zach Hascoe (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick) to beat Steve Arlt and Tim Weimen, 8-6, in the No. 3 spot.
In singles, Sandburg took down Lang in the No. 2 spot, 7-5, 6-2, while Hascoe dropped Arlt in a three-set tiebreaker, 6-2, 6-7, 10-6, in the No. 4 spot. Brenner overpowered Lawandy, 6-0, 6-1, in the No. 5 spot, while in the No. 6 spot, Bednarek defeated Weiman, 6-1, 6-0.
Bucknell will play Army in its Patriot League home opener on Sunday, April 1, at the Bucknell Varsity Tennis Courts. The match is slated to start at 11 a.m.
