LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The 16th-ranked Bucknell men's lacrosse team is back in action at home this weekend, hosting Patriot League rival Holy Cross at 1 p.m. at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. The 7-2 Bison will be looking to bounce back from last week's 6-3 setback to No. 4 Navy.
The Crusaders (2-5, 0-4 PL) will be playing for the first time in two weeks. Their last outing was a 12-2 loss to Navy in Dallas, Texas on March 17.
Bucknell is 17-0 all-time against Holy Cross in a series that dates back to the inception of the Patriot League in 1991. The Bison have outscored the Crusaders 224-66, although last year they needed an overtime goal from Nick Marks to win 4-3 in Worcester, Mass.
Edison Parzanese and Grant Cowherd have 10 goals apiece to lead the Holy Cross offense, and the Crusaders feature an outstanding sophomore goalie in Jimmy Harrison, who is averaging better than 12 saves per game and has a .584 save percentage.
Bucknell for years has been known as an outstanding defensive team, and this year's squad is no different. The Bison come into the weekend ranked sixth nationally in goals allowed (6.1 per game), while goalie Nick Sciubba ranks fouth in Division I in save percentage (.656).
In front of Sciubba, the close defense trio of senior Greg Sowyrda, junior Evan Burns and sophomore Billy Haire are all having outstanding seasons thus far, as the Bison have allowed six goals or less in seven of their first nine games.
Following Saturday's contest against Holy Cross, the Bison will have a week off before traveling to West Point to face No. 9 Army at 1 p.m. on Apr. 7 at Michie Stadium.
