LEWISBURG, Pa. - Megan O'Connor and Patrice Clark scored three goals apiece to lead UC Davis to a 13-2 victory over Bucknell on Wednesday night at Graham Field, ending the Bison's winning streak at four. The Aggies, who scored the game's final 11 goals and held Bucknell scoreless for the last 44:56, improved to 5-5, while the Bison fell to 4-4.
O'Connor and Clark scored in the game's first 3:05 to give UC Davis a quick 2-0 lead. The Bison got on the board for the first time at the 17:59 mark on an unassisted goal from Bonnie Buechel (South Orange, N.J./Columbia), her team-leading 20th of the season.
Three minutes later freshman Paige Kasschau (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side), who had already been denied twice by goalie Hilary Harkins from close range, cashed in on a free-position shot to tie the game at 2-apiece.
The Bison averaged 13.5 goals per game during their four-game winning streak, but the Aggies shut down their offense the rest of the way. Bucknell, which was playing without starting attack and scoring threat Sarah Collins (Goldens Bridge, N.Y./John Jay) due to illness, had very few possessions over the last 14 minutes of the half, and UC Davis was able to pull away.
Katie McGovern's goal with 13:31 left in the first half put the visitors ahead to stay. Clark and McGovern scored less than two minutes apart to make it a 5-2 game, and Olivia Jarem and Alden Monger batched two goals in 46 seconds late in the half to make it 7-2.
Bucknell won possession to start the second half and had a number of good scoring chances. Carol Donahue (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon), who had 26 points in her previous five games before being shut out in this one, fired just high on an 8-meter attempt, and later on the same possession Chelsea Peters (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) was stopped by Harkins on a free-position shot.
Not long after, the Aggies swiped the momentum back when Eri Ichikawa converted a feed from Monger to make it 8-2.
It was 9-2 midway through the half when the Bison thought they had a goal after a dash to the cage from Shauna Weinstein (Stanfordville, N.Y./Deerfield Academy), but an official whistled a foul on UC Davis just before the shot and took the goal off the board. Bucknell could not convert on the possession, and six minutes later Jarem made it 10-2. The Aggies tacked on three more goals, including an O'Connor tally at the final horn.
Bucknell won 10 of the 16 draw controls but committed 16 turnovers compared to 11 from UC Davis. The Aggies held a 36-20 shot advantage and won the ground ball battle 17-15.
Harkins made seven of her 11 saves in the second half, while Bison goalie Katie Hartsock (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) finished with 13 stops.
The Bison are back in action on Saturday, taking on Patriot League rival Colgate at noon in Hamilton, N.Y.
