LEWISBURG, Pa. - Freshman infielder Ben Yoder (Belleville, Pa./Indian Valley) was named the Patriot League Baseball Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday. The award is the first career honor for Yoder and marks the first time a member of the Bison has received a weekly award from the Patriot League this season.
In a 1-1 week for the Orange and Blue, Yoder led the squad in hitting as he went 5-for-9 in Bucknell's doubleheader split at Mount St. Mary's last Sunday for a .556 batting average. In the squad's 7-0 victory, Yoder hit 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Then in game two, a 4-3 setback for the Bison, he was 2-for-5 with a run scored.
Through Bucknell's first 16 games, Yoder has been among the team leaders offensively. After appearing in 14 contests with eight starts, he holds a .325 batting average with 13 hits, seven runs scored, two triples and five RBI.
The Bison (6-10) will make their 2007 home debut on Wednesday, Mar. 28, as the squad will take on Scranton beginning at 3:30 p.m. on Depew Field.
